Yes, think I've read that before

As I've also said before virtually all food is processed, in some way, I could draw you a Lean process for getting a tomato from the garden and putting it on your plate

I was listening to a news item whci began "At last, safe bacon". A nitrate free bacon has been produced implying that we can now eat as much of the stuff as we like without fear of cancer. Fortunately a down to earth accademic fllowed to say this is a very misleading statement and you are far more likely to get fat from eating a lot of bacon than to get cancer. He said it was his birthday today and he was off to have a bacon sandwich

I researched processed food for the food book I worked on. This book explains has an interesting account of it. Also a really good read.

I have just invested in a packet of processed cheese slices, which I am going to use to make Heart Attack Potatoes, a traditional family dish:
Layer a pyrex with cooked potatoes. Add two generous knobs of butter. Cover with fried bacon. Add fried onions (cooked in the bacon fat). Drizzle with single cream and add a layer of processed cheese. Repeat the process until all the ingredients are used up. End with a layer of potato, which should be covered with grated cheddar and some slices of home-grown, insecticide free, organic tomatoes.
Bake and consume voraciously. 8-)

I do a similar thing with not-processed cheese (I really am not keen on it.) So if you like processed cheese, delish :) Fantastic comfort food.

The trouble is, it is not really polite to say 'crappy' processed food .. but that's what people usually mean when they decry processed food ;) .

EM There was a wonderful shop in the village where Dad lived that had every Polish sausage under the sun in it, they were all 'processed', I went there many times with him and have bought lots of different types, it was like a food treasure trove for me. He ate Polish saus. most days of his life when he was over there and got to 96 and 7/8ths. I'm glad that I can happily eat that sort of food (not every day) and enjoy it without worrying what it would be doing to me internally. :D
