I've bought a huge bag of pinhead oats, in a slight moment of madness.... Had something in mind, but can't remember what it was now. What can I make with them?

(obviously there will be porridge!)

Some ideas here https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyl ... ttingstall

but we were talking a while back about oatmeal bannocks weren't we? Was that why you bought them?

Thanks Suffs. No I think I'd moved on from the bannocks. Oh maybe it was for the crunchy oatcakes. Will have to search my browser history! Memory is so bad at the moment because it's too cold outside!

Flapjack Springs to mind. It can be made either low sugar or use a sugar alternative. I also include oats when making crumble toppings.

Make your own muesli?

thanks.

Oh I've not had a crumble in ages. Boys don't like it  too awkward for hubby to put in his lunch box, so I don't normally bother.

I thought flapjacks too. That's what I'd do. Can pinhead be interchanged with rolled oats? Most recipes I found online seemed to.

IDK Tezza. I thought flapjacks used rolled oats. I'll have a google.

You can use pinhead. I made a batch with pinhead oats just last week. Sesame seed, sunflower seed and honey flapjacks to be precise (a lovely Farmhouse Kitchen recipe :chops: )

Do you like/can you eat marzipan (nuts)? Just a thought as it goes well grated with chopped dried apricots in oat bars. I have a recipe somewhere......

I love marzipan, but can't eat sugar and also (recently) allergic to almonds and it seems all nuts. Also can't eat apricots. It's got even harder to feed me now I'm low fodmap too.

Sea - sounds lovely, as long as I can swap the honey. Could you post the recipe please?

Of course!!

Honey and sesame seed flapjacks
2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
3oz sesame seeds
60z butter or margarine
2 tablespoons runny honey
3oz light brown sugar
3oz desiccated coconut
6oz oats (rolled or pinhead)

Grease a 23/30cm tin and line it with non stick paper. Set oven to gas 3 (160c)
Spread the sunflower and sesame seeds in a grill pan and toast them slightly. set aside to cool.
In a large pan, melt the butter/marg with the sugar and add the honey.
Stir in the other ingredients and mix well.
Spread the mixture into the tin and bake for around 20-25 minutes until browned.
Mark into bars whilst still warm and then leave to cool before removing from tin.

Enjoy!! :chops:
