victoria sponge question

I have just popped a Victoria sponge into the oven & realise I have used BI carb & not Baking powder how do you think it might affect the cake

You probably know by now! I wouldn't expect it to rise, unless you added the bicarb to self-raising flour, as there is no acidic element to react with the bicarb to release carbon dioxide.

Thanks Suelle, I did add to SR flour & it has risen perfectly.
It is for a special occasion welcome home cake so I want it right

I'm glad it worked out well, although the bicarb was probably superfluous in this case.
