There certainly has been a brilliant movement for this kind of thing in Bristol. I know someone who was involved in a communal urban garden in London. The effect on getting the community together, teaching grown ups and children how food is grown and the love, nurture and pride in doing so was a joy to see. In my area there are raised flower beds which the council no longer tend. Local people planted a few seeds and there are green veggies for people to pick freely. Such small projects provide food for those who are struggling and do wonders for community spirit. I hope we see more and more of it.
