Feeling sad that now I live an urban life, gathering blackberries is an occasion and windfalls a huge treat. I don't think I have ever made blackberry and apple anything where the fruit hasn't been foraged in some way, it used to be a staple at this time of year. I prefer to cook the fruit first and have no issues with muscavado if that's what's in the cupboard and a nice short short crust possibly enriched with an egg yolk but not sweet except for sugar sprinkled on top before baking to form a sweet layer.

Plum is my real favourite at this time of year and I'd always choose crumble over pie, nice as pie is.

Custard best, ice cream not bad if the pie is piping hot.

Yes. I've made 4 this year so far from windfalls and wild blackberries that grow over our back wall. The blackberries are small and very pippy this year though.

Deep envy! There are picking places round here of course but many which were best some years ago have been built over .

When you are like me and have no interest in gardening, you find that blackberries magically appear!! :) Then when
they have gone, the strimmer comes out.
