Barbeque essentials

Postby foodlov » April 17th, 2010, 1:12 pm

Hi me and my friends have been talking and deciding what we would count as a barbeque essential we came up with;

homemade burger;

Good quality sausages

Some type of meat kebab

A type of seafood

Whole fish (if possible)

selection of salads

corn on the cob

baked mushrooms (on the barbeque)

Chicken wings

What would your essential include?

Ohh, Deja vu :?

Big dish of potato salad - no, huge dish of potato salad :chops:

Bucket of cold water to plunge burnt hands into (just in case) :roll:

In fact one year when we did a lamb roast on a spit in the meadow, being the anxious type I filled the bath with cold water - just as well we did 'cos friends' brought their children on bikes and when my back was turned one child rode his bike close to the half-oildrum containing the hot coals, he fell off and his bum landed against the hot metal :terrified: we carted him straight into the bathroom and plunged him in fully clothed and although he still has a nasty mark there, it could have been very much worse.
His mum was a Health Visitor - at least she kept her head and also accepted responsibility for not taking proper care of him.

Lamb chops with decent layer of fat which can become blackened and crisp on BBQ

Decent British bangers and fresh beef burgers

Corn on the cob

Mushrooms

Halloumi

And then whatever

I think the only thing I always serve at a barbie are salads. Not overly fussed by burgers. Sausages usually feature but after that, anything really . Sometimes we'll feel more like seafood, other times it'll be chicken portions and ribs.

The most essential BBQ thing is the BBQ Geezer.

BLACK ON THE OUTSIDE AN' RED IN THE MIDDLE IS RIGHT.
