Oat Bannocks ... your recipes please

This is the place where the bakers hang out. Cakes and breads abound.

Oat Bannocks ... your recipes please

Postby suffolk » October 26th, 2017, 11:28 am

I've been having problems with eating ordinary bread, so thought I'd look at alternatives.

I wondered about making Bannocks but there seem to be as many recipes out there as there are days in the year ... some containing wheat flour and some not.

I'm looking for a recipe for an oatmeal Bannock which is cooked on a griddle or in a dry frying pan.

Any ideas anyone? :D

Thanks LTC , that looks promising ... I've got some fine oatmeal, but OH sells pinhead so I can get some from the farm shop. I'll try the recipe later in the week :tu: :D

But Drat and Double Drat!!! The digital scales have died ... new batteries will not fix them ... I'm going past Lakeland on Wednesday ....... so I won't be making bannocks until Thursday at the earliest

how about using two cupfuls of the oatmeal if you want to try it now rather than waiting until thursday? it's roughly 200g.

Oddly enough I was looking at Bannock recipes just the other day. It's fascinating how very different Bannocks are depending on where in the country you are. Some are like oat cakes, some are more like scones and some are in the style of a fruit tea-bread.

I used the pack of 'fine oatmeal' I already had ... seems perfect and think I'll continue to use this. :chef:
