Mincemeat 2017

Postby Zosherooney » November 5th, 2016, 10:42 pm

Too late for this year but decided that I needed to prep for Crimbo 2017!!

Looked at various recipes and decided to tweak a bit, so..... chopped brambly apple, raisins, PLJ lemon zest, sugar, dried cranberries, suet, rum, ground almonds, home made dregs of sloe voddy, ground aniseed, cinnamon, mixed spice. It is smelling nice in the cool garage with a stir every now and then.

Not keen on cut peel or currents (like grit IMHO)

Why do you need to make it a year ahead Zosh? I've always made it around half term and served the first pies on Bonfire night

For our taste, the flavours are better, I realised this when I 'found' a jar at the back of the cupboard and the flavour was very much more improved.

I have a funny feeling, we will be trying it sooner than next year Sue, Christmas seems to have arrived early in this household this year. 8-) I already have 2 sets of fairy lights up in the lounge..... :)

Could not resist trying my most recent MM last Sunday and I have to blow my own trumpet but it is very tasty. We both like the change and the aniseed is lovely in it. :chef: :chops:
