Order yourself a latte, and a pastry (The virtual cinnamon buns are excellent today). And have a nice chat.

Good afternoon ... where have you all been ? ;) ... I have been lurking; in between clearing out my (coal) shed prior to some building work starting next week ... this involves incorporating the said shed into a walk in cupboard in what will be an extension to the back of my porch that is on the side of the house. I'm getting really excited.. and giving me the drive to do a bit of de-cluttering. I will be starting on the house next ! ;) :o

Good afternoon
Just sneaked out to get my walk in ahead of the rain
Had a much longer walk in the sun yesterday, called in at two community cafes, at the Wildlife centre and the water sports centre thinking I'd get a sandwich or something as a late lunch. I could have all the stodgy cake I wanted but nothing savoury at all, rubbish
However the long awaited Mary Portas / Save the Children shop shop had finally opened so I got a nice top, new and unworn :D
And we have a new boutique, a French girl kind of dressmaker / designer, she may have to learn that she's the only natural size 6 adult in Stokey, but there was one dress that I think Scully would have appreciated, crepe, simple fitted bodice, 3/4 length sleeve, fairly full skirt hung on the most complicated basque I think I've ever seen, among other things it was so finely pin tucked it looked at first glance like Fortuny pleating :o

Dull and coolish here this morning. I decided that I probably ought to wear shoes (as opposed to sandals) and tights, but most of my tights are in storage and the only pair I could find have a plum-sized hole just above the left knee. The dress I am wearing is below the knee, so I thought I would be ok, but I didn't take into account the dress riding up when I walk. I think this may be a case of the reintroduction of petticoats as a trend...

It's birthday-month at work - about 6 birthdays this month, so just spent some time blowing up confetti filled balloons for birthday girl number one's desk. Alas, I accidentally let go of one  Looks like someone got married in the office now!

I want to have an old 50s dress copied, Sue. I may look her up. My young half-French colleague's whole-French mother apparently was surprised and dismayed by how very big British women's breasts are, when she first moved to England! The dressmaker may have a shock with that too!

good morning, all.
wet at the moment.
lovely lunch and chat with suffolk on saturday. we all had the same for lunch which consisted of griddled wild mushrooms (a truly generous portion) and tomatoes, with rocket, on a bed of fried polenta and topped with a poached egg. i think that was what it all was. it was all very good (although the poached egg wasn't runny).
today, we are late lunching with other friends who live down the coast from us and before that i have some remedial clearing up and a couple of phone calls to make.
have a good day, everyone.

good morning, all.
damp start but it 'should' be clearing up later.
this will be a good thing as we are at the minack this evening. i will have to sort something out to take for our dinner - i wish we hadn't eaten all of the 'freezer' curry from last week.
lunch and catchup with the friends yesterday was really good. their house renovations are so efficient that they have no electricity bills and also, almost no car fuel bills (they have a hybrid car that they put petrol in about three times a year) due to the photovoltaic cells - and input to the grid.
they also have a robot vacuum cleaner - i want one - it was brilliant.
we will aim for all that sometime.
have a good day, everyone.

Good morning, all.
Overcast with a bit of damp.
I'm at the local young's waiting for a delivery for them. I have coffee.
Yesterday, I reloaded all my stuff back onto my laptop from my external hard drive. Unfortunately it is now giving me the message that safari can't open google as it can't establish a secure connection to Google's server. Any suggestions welcome so I don't have to spend hours searching on the fire.
I have bought my ordinary kindle with me, too (yes, I'm all tech'ed up) but unfortunately I forgot my reading glasses so I'll have to big up the typeface. Reading will be the main task of the day.
It seems hurricane Irma is definitely not 'la douce'.

mixed weather - it was bright a few minutes ago, overcast just now and brightening up again now. rain is predicted for this afternoon - along with some sun.
my partner went off shortly after seven to clear and bag up plasterboard and a trip to the dump to make some space for the next lot.
my job is a bit of research before i have to head off to an apt, this afternoon.
have a safe journey back tomorrow, suffolk, i hope it's been a good, relaxing holiday.

I have been for a walk along the Lea navigation to Tottenham Hale retail park, and I have returned with supples
Now to set up all the Wi Fi gizmos, as I have a new router and so new codes

wet. we are predicted wet for the next few days including strong winds on monday - when we are having some plasterboard delivered - hmmmm...
i have a load of veg, picked yesterday evening, to dish out to 'the girls' this afternoon at a meeting. there are more courgettes and tomatoes than we could cope with - and we're getting a bit fed up with them. some more will be bound for the freezer but this lot can be offloaded - there'll be more boxfuls in a couple of days and i haven't enough empty jars at the moment.

I went to the Giacometti exhibition a few weeks ago. Wonderful.

Please let us know about the festival, presume you mean by London Bridge/Potters Field Park? I'm thinking of going over the weekend

Good morning
The Giacometti was great, the Chinese Food festival is a good place to browse and eat, but I was a bit stuck for something to drink, the choice being Coke, tea (of course) or coffee, I wanted juice or beer! It seems to be sponsored by Lee Kum Kee, spent some time chatting on their stall. Only a destination if you can get tickets to the LKK master classes but I suspect those all went to people on their email list long since.
I walked a lot so just popping to the farmer's market today, it's currently sunny :o so shouls go
Have a good day

Oh Dear Herb. We had thunder and lightening 35 years ago when we were at the alter !!!!!! It's so hit and miss, there are no guarantees !

There seems to have been rain during the night, slightly overcast now but still warm. I turned the AC cooler with the hope that the mozzies would hate it and stay away, seems to have done the trick - no new bites today.

Good afternoon (or possibly evening, it's getting that dark)
We must have had some rain overnight but so far today we have had increasing cloud and gusty winds
We planning a longish walk but ended up having a talk from the vicar of Shoreditch church about the history of Shoreditch (and St Leonard's Shoreditch in particular, very interesting, all the way from Claudius in 45 AD to now
Then we had lunch at the Geffrye Museum
Then I did have a decent walk, up the Roman Ermine Street (aka the A10) to Dalston, where I stopped to have a look at Hackney carnival
Shattered now!
Hope you all had a good weekend

I sometimes feel like that too about our WI programme, but with the exception of a very boring man talking about parrots :o , it's usually turned out to be quite good. I'm missing our glass painting session due to holidays, I think I would have enjoyed that.

there's a good exercise that can be done by anyone - with pencil and paper, place pencil on paper, close eyes, put a finger from your non drawing hand on your face and trace round your face and features while copying it down onto the paper with the pencil in an unbroken line. the result can be quite interesting (and sometimes funny).

Good morning .. At the moment it's sunny here although apparently the weather is going to deteriorate this afternoon ... I got quite wet yesterday - had an appointment for a CT scan at 5 pm so set out at 4 pm to get there by public transport (parking at Hillingdon Hospital is very difficult) .. it was dry when I left, but I did take an umbrella with me. On the way to Uxbridge, the heavens opened and this carried on until I eventually arrived at the hospital. Only a short walk, but through a deluge, not really protected by the umbrella. I can't think why I didn't wear my rain coat :aww:  In all, a very tiring day yesterday with a Zumba class in the morning and Fitsteps after the hospital appointment in the evening .. Got home exhausted. Warm drink and straight to bed to watch Rellick on tv. Managed about half of it before giving in to sleep ! ;)

good morning, all.
overcast with sun and a bit of a breeze, 'though nothing like yesterdays offering.
the memorable parts of last nights production at the minack were, in this order :-
the sound of the sea,
the flying algal foam,
the words (when they could be heard - there was some mumbling from cast who hadn't allowed for the situation/conditions),
and the acting - my partner asked if i really wanted to stay for the second half.
it wasn't as dire as the version of the tempest we saw a few years ago - this lot had at least made an effort with the costumes - although there were some anachronistic ones - but maybe they were just trying to point out that it was sometime in the 15th to 17th century.
shopping was, again, done on the way home. twenty four hour supermarkets are very useful at times.
my partner has gone to remove some kitchen cabinets so i have to make my own coffee again. i'm not complaining. his labour there is more useful and more than i could do at the moment. thankfully, he's enjoying doing it all - and learning some useful tricks of the trade from the builder.
have a calmer day, everyone.

Cheerful and sunny, but very windy in SE London this morning - and indeed during the night. All the sunflowers were on the ground, and I suspect watering cans and empty plat pots will be strewn over the garden. I would be very happy if it were like this tomorrow - for my planned photography outing - but it's forecast to be overcast.

Pretty blustery here but I don't think it's anything like the weather you've had in the west.

Luckily we escaped the worst of the weather. We had some rain, but not as bad as I thought it would be. So pleased there were no more floods in Mossley anyway.

Our kitchen is drying out too. We've been summoned to the in-laws' house tonight, not sure why but I think it will be some thing to do with what happened

good morning, all.
sunny with a little cloud and a bit of a breeze.
we, too had comfort food last night, the beans and chard recipe (in the chard thread) made with chard from the garden and accompanied by some nice bread from the village shop. i think i may extend and freeze the leftovers for our last trip down to the minack, the weekend after this. we will be seeing the classicist, natalie haynes.
my partner was up early as he realised some prep needed doing before the builder and her husband started plastering. i went back to sleep - so did the cat who thinks that his position on the bed is an undeniable right, at the moment.
it's now raining.
have a good day, everyone.

Good morning from sunny (but chilly) Norfolk 8-) ;) I've put a camisole and a woolly cardi on as well as a top ... autumn must be here.
Glad you're having a lovely time Cooksalot :D
Heading down to Ipswich in a bit to visit DD and do some shopping and odds and ends for her while she recuperates.
Have a good day folks :D

good morning, all.
overcast, damp and with a bit of a breeze from the nnw.
i'm using a cat as a laptop rest. if he doesn't like it, tough luck, he can always move but chooses not to.
i need to do a bit of shopping but as tomorrow is forecast to rain all day i will do it then. this is dictated by the need to use the car for dry weather purposes by my partner.
one of the things i need to get is butter. fancying biscuits, and having none, i made some digestives yesterday. i finished the butter in them and had to add some olive oil. the icing sugar (asked for in the recipe) had turned into hard lumps that needed a pestle and mortar to crush - so i used soft light brown. i also substituted the wholemeal for spelt. i was quite pleased with the result but maybe i'll get the ingredients to see how close the recipe comes to 'real ones' (as seen in the factory on tv).
maybe i need a cup of coffee to go with one - or two.
have a cosy day, everyone.

good morning, all.
wet - with more to come.
hswk today, shopping tomorrow.
my partner has gone to do a few dump runs with plaster rubble - after handing me a coffee. bliss.
i started making a thai curry last night before finding we had no coconut milk. i winged it with coconut flour and coconut oil. the flavour was ok but the texture was less than optimum. mental note - buy coconut milk.
have a good day, everyone.
