good morning, all.
sunny and cold.
it was -2°c on our way home from one of the gardening group meetings, last night - decidedly chilly!
stupidly, i had a cup of coffee there and was then awake until about 4am. it's taking longer get going today- a good job i don't have much to do.
i finally got round to putting chilli seeds in the propagator yesterday along with the rest of the viable looking pine nuts (although i don't think they need the extra heat). i may start sow other stuff indoors as we are meant to be back to about 9°c next week. i may also go out and prune some fruit bushes before everything warms up (but maybe not today). wouldn't it be nice if the slug population had been drastically affected by the sub zero temperatures? i wish.
well done to your daughter, suffolk.
we are supposed to get snow tomorrow. goody good!
have a good day, everyone

Ooops, I've just looked up and seen lots of snow flakes rushing past the window. This looks like it may settle, especially if it continues for the rest of the day :(

ten minutes later:

Virtual blizzard conditions outside now; I hope I get home before it settles. I remember a few years ago when I was in full time employment in Watford ... the snow started just like this, about the same time of day. By 5 pm, the whole of Watford town centre was gridlocked. ! :o :(

It's glorious here, and I say this partly because I have managed to arrange to work from home! The trains are running but lots of cancellations and delays. It took me a long time to recover from my paltry 1km walk home last night coughing-wise, so I think I am doing the right thing. (Guilt emanating off me here...)

A foot of snow here and it's still snowing. No buses, no trains, lorries jack-knifed on our main roads and the bank is closed and so is the school and all the children are out on sledges ... cars have been abandoned at rakish angles on our little hill and carers cant get to the elderly infirm 'cos they have childcare problems ......
Stay warm folks :D :mug:

It's not good Herbi http://www.edp24.co.uk/home

It's fine for those of us who can stay in ............ a few years ago as a 'front line worker' I'd have been expected to get to work ...

We're checking next door from time to time to make sure his carers turn up ..........

My Aged Ps' NDNs checked on them when they were at home ... I know what peace of mind good neighbours can give in a case like that .... Mr F's daughter lives in Scotland ... she thinks we're 'angels' because we put his bins in and and out and let her know when his gate blew off its hinges and broke ..... we have a reputation to maintain

When we went around this morning at 9am the carer hadn't been 'cos she had childcare problems, but she had phoned him to say she was on her way ... he was still in bed so we turned his heating up a bit and made sure he could reach all that he needed ... he's not really mobile ... we made sure he has our phone number ... I've not seen the carer but I'm sure she's been ... however we'll pop around before it gets dark just to put our own minds at rest.

Good morning, all.
The snow hasn't completely gone after last night's rain and in theory we are due some more snow - although that may just become more rain as the temperature is rising slightly. The beeb says it's 2°c.
The gardening course has been cancelled for this week so I've come back to the warmth of the bed for a while.
I'll start making coffee hints soon.
Have a good day, everyone.

Still cold and covered in snow here, though small signs of a thaw
However we are forecast sub zero temperatures and a better than 50% chance of precipitation all day, so we shall see what that means
I am currently enjoying a very nice :mug: , I descaled the espresso machine yesterday, and it is a happy camper today

Morning all. Still lots of snow at home, the ploughs have been out on the roads, but some of the more isolated villages are still cut off. All 3 roads out of our town were blocked with abandoned vehicles earlier, but think they've been cleared now.

Made it into work on the train, quite a few drifts of snow on the side streets, unpleasant slush everywhere else. No snow at all in Manchester city centre, it is like a different world here  Will have to keep an eye on the trains to make sure I can get home ok.

Hope everyone stays warm and safe!

We had some sunshine earlier. When I was woken by Basil at 7am (jumped on my head and meowed loudly then poked my face), the sun was flooding into my bedroom. I went downstairs to feed them and open the catflap, desperately trying not to wake up properly as I couldn't get to sleep until after 4am this morning. I did indeed go back to sleep and the sun had gone in by the time I woke up again. Grey skies.
My husband has gorgeous postcard blue skies in Karlsruhe.
It's much warmer, I sense, though. Snow all gone.
Ah yes dinner. I was going to dig out my slow cooker, but think I may go down the stovetop route as I need to do some housework now.

Nice and sunny here today, and a bit breezy.
I have me new gardener coming half an hour so ticking around to meet her then going to the doctor's re cough - I have misgivings. I made the appointment earlier in the week, but can't back out now.
Just had a call to tell me my mother has had a fall. She sounds quite badly, but not seriously, hurt - banged head, lots of cuts and probably has a broken nose, so she's off to hospital.

edit: just had another call, this time from the paramedics. They are not taking her to hospital. She looks worse than she is... phew.

Morning all! Got a day out of the office today and have come to a recruitment event in Hull. Always nice to be back home even if it is freezing! No snow when I left this morning, as soon as we emerged from the tunnel into Yorkshire it was like Narnia. This side of Leeds is clear though.

Looking forward to my patty and chips later and hopefully getting a curd tart too. Shame it is such a flying visit

For a split second i read that as 'the parakeet is being re-waxed', Suffs.

Thanks all re my mother. Will ring her later. I have to admit, once I realized she was not seriously hurt, my first thought was to wonder whether I could cancel her Mothering Sunday flowers (if she was going to be in hospital.) Worryingly she didn't use her 'pendant' because she didn't want them to disturb me in the night. So she waited until her carers arrived. I am going to have to tell her I have asked them not to t=ring me in the night. I think she thought she was ok as well though.

We woke up to about three or four inches of snow :o , chaos everywhere, again, but by lunchtime, it had all melted, the skies were bright blue, the sun was shining, and the pavements were completely dry. Our garden is clear, but our neighbours gardens have varying amounts of snow left on them. All the gardens face the same way :? .

Basil was in and out last night while it was raining heavily. The settee and the floors are covered in paw marks (before I had chance to whip out and strategically place towels). Will need to wash the floor and put a bit of polish down. Settees, I am not sure. Probably not wise to have got paleish ones!
