guess where i am.

Order yourself a latte, and a pastry (The virtual cinnamon buns are excellent today). And have a nice chat.

How about another one?
It's chilly, cloudy and raining - I think is predicted to be thus for the next day or so after which the temperature is said to rise to about ten degrees warmer- it was warmer at home!
Over the road from the station we walked through grand, wrought iron gates and up through a 'poetical' park.
Enough clues to be going on with?

We are hiring bikes tomorrow to go out to see a flight of locks rather than to other way to the beach (we live near a beach but not locks, at home).

My researchers brain is screaming in pain !! Need more info ,need more info.... :D

Presume cycle ride is not more than 50 miles return
Also coast bike ride
You mention 'accross' from station so thinking town
Canal man thinking Frances Egerton, Duke of Bridgewater

my best guess was Bridgewater, but already said, as has Etruria, as has Bath, as has..... well you get the picture

Liverpool; Bristol or Wigan !

Mmmm I was thinking Uk, but now thinking South of France.
They had a cold spell, canals also have locks, runs to coast etc

Is the canal builder Pierre-Paul Riquet ??? Beziers or similiar on Canal du Midi ?

And there was I about to give some more (fiendishly) cryptic clues when musselsandfries gets it - never mind.
Yes, beziers. A virtual glass of the local tipple for you.
Yes, pierre-paul riquet - a much revered son of the town.
Our cycle along the canal du midi was a little tough, a strong head wind on the way and a very bumpy towpath meant that I was suffering from rocky coccyx syndrome by the time we got back. A good lunch at Poilhes, a tail wind on the way back and a long soak in a hot bath mean that I remain human. Whether my partner agrees with that is another matter.

Ooh, wasn't expecting it to be right ! When Ratatouille suggested not in Uk it made me think...

Strange how we associate information, cycling canals abroad always conjures up images of South of France to me.

I do hope the wind for your cycle ride wasn't as viscous as it was here yesterday, if so you could well be aching for days. :o

Enjoy your trip

The legs were fine, the bum will take a while to recover! someone should make the equivalent of an armchair in saddle form for bumpy tracks.
Yes, it was interesting how the immediate thoughts were of the uk when there are famous canals all over the world.

79 year old MIL who cycles over 20 miles a day swears by her thick sheepskin saddle cover..!

I am lucky enoughto do 90% of my cycling in Netherlands, it is true what they say about it being absolutely perfect for cycling, the quality of paths is second to none and the cyclist really is queen /king of the road. Although being so flat and easy one doesn't really earn the apple pie or pancake at the cafe stopover ;)

The first thing I was told in Belgium was that my saddle was way too low, in England I was taught foot flat to floor, here it is tiptoes to floor height. Makes a huge difference on back and shoulders.

I, too, have always been a tiptoe to the floor cyclist. It's also easier on the knees and hips.
The rocks, roots, ground down tree stumps and muddy patches were the things that insulted the coccyx and ischeal tuberosities, though - apart from the saddle.
