I used to play Father Christmas for a couple of charities. Now cast your mind back about 12 years, and think of the political situation, and some words that were uttered every time the news was on.

A little lad came to see me with his parents - he was a real believer. I chatted him up, like you do - do you play football?; who do you support?; who's your favourite player? - just to loosen them up a bit, and get them talkng. I asked him what he'd really like for Christmas. He looked at me - big innocent brown eyes, and replied - "I'd like a weapon of mass destruction, please"!

Not sure if this is a new one or not, but I received an email a few days ago supposedly from the tv licencing authority saying that they had failed to take my direct debit from my bank and if I didn't re-submit my details (before the end of the day as I recall), then my licence wouldn't be renewed. ... I don't check my emails every day on my laptop, only saw this as I can see my emails on my phone .... so I guess I need to be ready for the tv brigade to park their van outside my house and come pounding on the door about this offence .

bums, i was beginning to look forward to sitting on earth maidens knee. spoilsport!

if you check the email address of the tv licence scams they all seem to come from japan for some reason. i think the young boys, there, know nothing about tv licences anyway but i suppose it's as good a subject as any.
they seem to have given up on the hmrc ones for a while.
i'll really laugh if they do one saying my gas will be cut off - the nearest mains gas for anyone in these parts is three or more miles away - unless they'd come to take my cylinder away, of course.

That's one ID-ed, Who were the other 699 suffs?

That's wierd, weren't there a huge number another day?

BTW, crawlers and bots I think are stuff (as we techys say) that harvest information for Google and who knows what and who else.

You can see I have a good grasp of this stuff...

I think, but I'm not sure, is that large numbers of visitors is a automatic program trying to break through the password system. If they succeed, I will have to change them again.

A slight warning to any of you with time on your hands and looking to wind up a scammer...

It can be fun if someone phones you, to play along for a while. BUT don't be tempted to "press 1 to speak to our agent" to do it. Doing that calls a premium rate phone line and will cost you £££££. :o

Absolutely correct aero,
I did have a human being ( if they can be called that) call once &I had great fun thanking her for the call & what did I need to do, then asking a load of pointless questions as she tried in vain to pass me to the technical department.
My last sentence to her could not be published on here

Following on from aero280, a friend has an elderly relative, living alone in the early stages of dementia and deaf, who did as he was asked. The next phone bill cost him over £400. Phone company were helpful in blocking further incidents, but they still had to pay the bill.

Another scam. Someone rings and says, ‘Is that Mr dennispc?’. It is unwise to say, ‘yes’, apparently they use only that part of the recording to claim you have agreed to signing up to a monthly payment for something or other. My response used to be, in a really posh accent, “May I ask whom is calling”. Now I say, ‘why are you calling’.

I just had a call from 'Sky'. Apparently my monthly direct debit is changing and I needed to pay for 1 year's insurance or 2 years to get a discount. I needed to pay by credit or debit card today in order to keep receiving my signal. I agreed to pay up front for 2 years. I just need the long card number ................... Oh hang on a minute - I don't have Sky. Yes you do she argued, so I said that I would pass her details on to Action Fraud and funnily enough she hung up on me! The call came from 02038073653 :D

As I keep boring on about, our so-called 'regulators' are totally pathetic. As they were from the start.

No scammy calls today or even an e mail to say I had been videoed doing something unimaginable or even a prince from somewhere who wants to give me all his oil wealth gazillions. A sad day in miss mouseland.
