I got to thinking.............

Order yourself a latte, and a pastry (The virtual cinnamon buns are excellent today). And have a nice chat.

I got to thinking.............

Postby Gruney » August 12th, 2017, 6:56 am

.............of all the advice, tips and recipes I''ve had since I joined the boards - eating's going to have to be a bit tactical this weekend, as they've got a cider festival on at the pub.

Probably the recipe I've valued most, is one Uschi gave us years ago, on the Beeb board - it's a German apple cake, called Schlupfkuchen - I must make it again soon.

Thanks again Uschi.

Enjoy the cider Gruney, my advice would be have a cooked breakfast, make up some sandwiches or pork pie and bits, cling film it and put in fridge for when you get home. That way you have two meals sorted, one for when you return and maybe don't fancy cooking............lunch who cares? Just have another pint

... and make sure that you have either ...

a. arranged for someone to give you a lift home, or

b. a pair of trousers with reinforced knees

Enjoy the weekend :tu:

Thanks both. I think I'll have my tea round about dinner time, and wander down after the football results.

Mental note 1 - don't come back along the canal.

Mental note 2 - don't take the dog.

Mental note 3 - don't look up to count the Perseid shooting stars.

Mental note 4 - don't do anything as daft as opening a bottle of wine when I get back.

Excellent advice to yourself Gruney! Have a lovely time ... and take a sun hat (that doubles as a rain hat) if you are going to be outdoors

Funnily enough, I have just been out for some cans of cider for the fridge. It's not quite the same as a festival though!
Have fun Gruney. Jealous!

Oooh, that sounds lovely!!!
Have a wonderful time!!! :cocktail:

I am glad that Oma's Schlupfkuchen has served you well! It's an old stalward in my family.

When the festivites are over ... I have a traybake recipe with tinned apricots, a sort of Aprikosenschlupfkuchen. :hungry:
I have also done a rainbow version of this adding gooseberries, cherries (dark and light) plus mirabelles. Very pretty and more variation.

I absolutely must have a go at that - if only to tell people about it! Any chance of your recipe when you've got a minute, please?

I think the name alone of this cake deserves a bit of a dabble.
I might even have a go myself, J enjoys a slice of cake at the weekend.
He would probably enjoy it daily if I relaxed the rules.

Not too bad thanks. Dinner's all prepped and in the fridge - pork chop au poivre a la Delia. About half one to two, I'll pop out for round two - this is the one that could get a bit out of control!

I have a glut of plums in the garden.
Maybe that would work instead of apricots.
