Techie help please

Postby icelesley » January 15th, 2018, 8:22 am

I have just replaced the ink cartridges in my Epson printer, the printer says all inks are full, the computer says the ink is empty and it won't print. What can I do?

I'm no expert, but first I'd take the cartridges out and put them back in again just in case they weren't seated correctly.

Give the cartridges a shake too. Reboot: turn everything off (computer and printer) and wait a few minutes before restarting.

Are the cartridges Epson or another brand?

The cartridges are Epson compatible, the printer identified them and OK'd to print.

Hmmm ... I'll think again ... has the reboot helped?

Do you need to re-start the print queue?

Epsom were notorious in the past for adding unnecessary "identity chips" to their ink cartridges. If you didn’t use their very expensive own brand cartridges and used compatible ones without the chip, the printer defaulted to a lower quality output. When you noticed and complained, they told you that the cartridges were the wrong ones and that using Epsom cartridges would solve the problem, which it did.

Many people avoid Epsom as a result. Maybe they have changed, maybe they haven’t...

I have re-booted everything but no luck. I have used the copier on it though and that works OK. OH thinks it's probably not compatible with windows 10. I had the printer for Christmas 2012 but I can't find an update or patch to put it right. The only thing I haven't tried is to put it on a printer cable, mine seems to have gone walk about since I finished work.

the same happened with our hp a few years back back but my partner can't remember what he did to make it work - i think it was something very simple like clicking something in the printing pane but i'm not sure.
- it may have been caused by an update that he didn't ok when windows decided to update off its own bat for him.
there should be a fix online.

I think the only remaining option is to do a Basil Fawlty and give it a damn good thrashing... :D

When ours refused to scan we left it in solitary for a few weeks, then miraculously it worked. I suspect an update in the meantime is the reason it resumed service but you never know.
