Valentines Day

Order yourself a latte, and a pastry (The virtual cinnamon buns are excellent today). And have a nice chat.

We’ve decided not to go out after all. We both now have a very busy week at work and don’t fancy a rushed restaurant dinner when we get back.

Instead we’ve decided to make lamb kebabs with hummus, grilled halloumi, pickles, salad, mint yoghurt etc, with a few beers/glass of wine before collapsing in front of the tv!

Your OH and mine should get together Suffs. He loves Tunnock's tea cakes too. His valentine included heart-shaped marshmallows covered in dark chocolate. :D

I didn't receive a Valentine card - I didn't imagine I would. But I got something much better. A woman I used to perform song and dance acts with, and with whom I keep in occasional contact, knows I am in a fix with my ankle, and that I was desperate to get my kitchen sorted out. She came round and spent six hours scrubbing, chucking and rearranging. I wish she'd left me a map of where things have been relocated :D

She'll have put them 'in the obvious place' ....... obvious to her that is ..... maybe she wants to be invited back to find them for you ;)

Now that’s my kind of friend! What a lovely gesture, sometimes actions speak louder than mere words (printed in a valentines card) Gruney. Maybe you could reciprocate her kindness in some other way?

Oh we've been pals for years she's a very good dancer - I am not, but I'm a more confident singer than she is. We used to do routines like "We're a couple of swells". Just pals - but good pals; and nothing more.

I had a go at making an Isfahan for OH. It turned out OK, but I could have added more colour and flavour to match the original we had in Reims in September.

Then she started eating it before I could take a photo!!

Resurrecting this thread as it is just around the corner..... After purchasing a fresh truffle today, Supper on 14th will be egg pasta with a basic creamy sauce with some parsley and a tad of garlic and some shavings of truffle over the top. Maybe some fizz to start, I think I have some goose fillets in the freezer, so they would go with the lush bread I bought today in W'rose. I also collected two reduced slices of salted caramel cheesecake which will be for pudd.

We are going out to lunch. It's cheaper than doing the special evening meal!! :)

Otherwise, I won't be doing anything in the way of baking because the kitchen is still acting as the utility room. I can just about do a loaf and some microwave stuff.

No St Valentine's Day for me. Both Axel and I are working on big translations and if we want to have some time for each other at the weekend we had better work through Friday.
Mind you, I would not dream of eating out or expecting flowers (I'd rather have some a week or two later when they have come down in price) on the day anyway.
I used to make Axel saucy biscuits, meringues or cakes, but this year ...

Still, I shall gird my loins on Saturday (suspenders and nylons) and we'll have a non-commercial lovely evening. :birthday-dancer Magic1 :wino

When I was single I just didn't mind St Valentine's Day. It simply didn't matter to me, unlike New Year's Eve. That was painful.

As for romantic dinners, in 1987 a young man won my heart by feeding me chips and Currywurst on the way home from a screening of "The Jungle Book" (Disney version). I was walking on air and enjoyed the food and the banter.

What is this about Shrove Tuesday??? Surely that is in March this year???

Hicks, here, too! Yesterday I found a beautiful 3/4 batwing sleeves top in a flowing silver lamée fabric. The neckline is medium low. And all for 16.99 Euros at TK-Maxx's. Guess who's a happy bunny. :bounce:
