Council Tax Payment methods

I have found out quite by accident that our local council who added a 3% charge on credit card payments for the last 2 years have now had to cancel the 3% charge. For the last 2 years I have paid via direct debit to avoid this extra 3%. What this means to us is that we pay the monthly (for 10 months) payment 6 weeks after the due date instead of immediately. I know the interest is not much but I would rather the dosh stay in our account and not the councils.
