Meet up on Saturday 10th at 12.30

Order yourself a latte, and a pastry (The virtual cinnamon buns are excellent today). And have a nice chat.

I love Lebanese cuisine. We haven't had a Christmas/New Year meet yet .......

I copied this from the tv programme about Nigel Slater's current series ...It seems some of us would love to try a Lebanese restaurant (again ;) )

I think Stokey and Pepper are up for it and both have recommended a restaurant - we now need a date and a list of attendees ?

Sounds like a plan... Good on you Patsy :tu: Going from past meets, Sat lunchtimes seem to be most in favour unless anyone's any other suggestions ? Preferably the restaurant not taking a deposit but a guaranteed number turning up... :tu:

#1 Al Waha, Westbourne Grove. A "proper" restaurant, family run, slightly old-fashioned in a good way.

#2 Le Comptoir Libanais, now a chain, several possible branches, probably Wigmore St is good, sort of Beiruti cafe (like a trattoria perhaps?)
http://www.comptoirlibanais.com

#3 Yalla Yalla more canteen like, street food, two branches, one either side of Oxford St, seems PP and I have been to different branches and both have been good
http://www.yalla-yalla.co.uk

the above were the 3 suggested ... I think we settled on #1 and #3 ?

Any Saturday good for me apart from 24th Feb as my sister has bought me a ticket to see Lá Bohéme at the High Wycombe Swan theatre that night ...

Lovely idea ... however afraid we'll not be making the journey this year ... jobseeking for OH plus the fact that trains between here and London turn into buses at weekends at the moment means we'll only be with you in spirit ... but hope you have a fantastic time

I am keen, and around most Saturdays and many other lunch times, in fact I think 24th is also a bit doubtful for me

I agree that #1 or #3 is probably what we are looking at, depends on preference for style, and of course also cost. I'd put Yalla Yalla int the informal and inexpensive category like Dishoom, but Al Waha would be pricier

I'm not at all sure Yalla Yalla would let you book for a large meet. Someone needs to check. They used to have a no booking policy and I know one of my other groups tried to book for 8 once and they wouldn't do it.

I think the Fitzrovia (north of Oxford Street) one will let you have the sort of group size we are likely to muster, I did check booking was available for all before I made the list

Al Waha isn't huge, but I've been there with 8 I think but probably no more

I am sadly going to have to join Suffolk and her OH and join you in spirit only, which is just typical as this is the first opportunity that's come up where it doesn't matter a hoot what's on the menu. Next time!

I'm sure that we would be happy to come along, if free that weekend. But our priority is with the family, especially granddaughter, at the moment.

At the moment, the weekends in March are looking busy - 10th, 17th, 24th. But only the 17th Feb is booked this month.

I'm interested if it falls on a date I can do. I'm happy to go anywhere but think Al Waha would be my first choice.

I could do Sat Feb 24th, March 3rd, 10th, 31st and April 7th.

Mine too EM. I haven't been for years.

I am free most Saturdays, the only proviso being that if Chris was having a bad day I'd need to make sure there was cover here.

I´m arriving in the UK on Feb 28th, flying from Caracas, to ISTANBUL , then to London. Only flight available
The first weekend, I`ve got to see my family - my mum is now 90, and my dad´s 86, and both down in the dumps - so I don´t want to move from Maidstone that weekend.
The second weekend, however, (10th?) I´ll be in London because I´m going to visit a long-lost friend I haven`t seen for 20 years.
Let´s see what happens the first weekend, anyway. If there´s a sudden change of plans, I could possibly gatecrash the Wildfood Lunch!!
I don´t mind standing, as long as someone puts a pint in my hands.

These appear to be the set menus. http://www.alwaharestaurant.com/setmenu.htm

Whilst I like the lamb dishes I would be quite happy to stick to the veggie option (not least because Sambousek with Cheese are one of my favourite foods in the whole world and you are guaranteed at least one then  )
