Meet up on Saturday 10th at 12.30

Order yourself a latte, and a pastry (The virtual cinnamon buns are excellent today). And have a nice chat.

Yes, I forgot to mention the wine, red and white, both Lebanese and both very different and very nice. I agree with you Kool, a wonderful way to spend an otherwise plain old Saturday afternoon, one for the memory banks.

Thanks. I should have asked people to pose rather than trying to be surreptitious!

That wall paper was a bit disorientating...

Yes Mr H found me. He'd been book shopping and rugby watching in Soho.

Lovely pics - the food looks amazing - and what huge portions!!! I'd be worried about their profit margin ... Alex Polizzi would have forty fits!
Great to discover that KK is not really a furry animal ;)
Very envious of you all and a shame we couldn't join you this year but c'est la vie ...glad you all enjoyed yourselves and had safe journeys home.
Zosh does look so concerned by that chocolate dessert  ;)

It does seem odd that some places serve such large portions - I didn't get the impression that they expected people to order fewer set menus and just try a little of each and doggie boxes were at the ready. As Pat said at the time, she would rather have paid slightly less and had fewer leftovers. The photo of the piece of chocolate cake makes it look smaller than it actually was and the waitress, on seeing my clean plate asked with surprise if I had eaten it all. No, I had shared it and wrapped a large piece to take home ... but to have to justify why you have a clean plate and prove you are not just greedy seems a bit much.

That said, the staff generally were very friendly and the location was ideal - I would certainly go there again, choose a Mezze selection - and share a pud (with the exception of the Mouhalabia which looked a more sensible size). Thank you very much Sue for organising it.

Make sure you go to the Winsley Street one Mogs. The café in Soho is tiny.

Am interested in the food portions though. I've been a fair few times - I always meet an ex-colleague there, I'm his fag hag :o   - but they absolutely always say when we've ordered too much (practically every time) and insist we go dish by dish. Am guessing that it was different because it was a Mother's Day mezze.

One thing I wish they'd do as many other Middle Eastern gaffs do, and most Turkish restaurants, is do a set selection of mezze to share, then you could order mains to share as needed
I've noticed Turkish families seldom have a main each, it's quite a Western thing it serms
But yes, I think the Mother's day menu was a bit of a bonanza

Crikey Tony Kitous has hisvfingers in a lot of pies!

Was interested to discover from the Food Programme that there is a lot of Lebanese influencein Sierra Leonese food, now African could be a theme forva future meeting. Just realised nobody on the programme mentioned the cafe that used to be at the old Africa Centre in Covent Garden :o I suppose they are all too young to remember

I noticed on the way out the other day, a sign suggesting that there was a connection to Comptoir Libanais. I like the look of some of the other restaurants .. perhaps we should try them all?

Back in the third world now.
Yalla-Yalla was great - I could eat that stuff every day.
The little surprise, for me, was the Moussaka. No "bechamel topping" and a divine scent of cinnamon.
The portions were humongous - to think that we all had a taste of EM´s chocolate cake, and there was still a good slice left
The best thing of all, however, was the transformation of cyberspace into reality. I´ve met everyone before, of course, but only in a surreal world. It was thoroughly enjoyable to talk to you all in person!

Sorry to have missed you. :(

I was in Royston. After the visit to the car restorer, we went to the Heath Cafe. Definitely recommended for a stop on the way if you are heading to and from East Anglia/Cambridge. It's on the old road from the centre of Royston towards Baldock, half way to the by-pass and the A505.

I had a very nice steak and ale pie. Proper pie, not a casserole with a pastry lid.

Thanks for sharing Heath Cafe, aero. Their menu looks nice and relaxed and tasty. I am planning a trip to Royston to see a good friend who lives there very soon. I'll have to mention it to her as a possible venue, although will have to check on wheelchair access for her first.
