Good morning everyone,
  Zosh how upsetting
Glad you made it back home EM, there is nothing like your own bed after a long journey.
Patsy, Lucy is gorgeous. :luv: I'm sure you'll both get used to each others ways. Old dogs are so loving but not without their problems. Hopefully not a problem for Lucy but could be worth checking that she doesn't dribble small amounts of urine when she's snoozing. Both my dogs developed this when elderly and the vet confirmed there were no underlying issues causing it. I bought cot protectors and popped these under a throw on my sofas. I felt the pooches were too old to understand if they were banned from the sofa so this was a good solution for everyone. :)

It is very windy and chilly this morning with rain forecast for late afternoon. I'm just going to finish my :mug: and head to the garden while it still dry. I need to get some salad stuff planted and do some more sweeping/tidying up.

I have kept busy trying to occupy my mind.... Mr. Z has text, he will be home in ten. Unlike last night when it was nearly 9pm ! I have just ordered the ceramics for the Hobbit room and for phase II, asked for discount then rounded it down....to the next tenner ! Cheeky Tart !

Sorry to hear of your findings with the chickens this morning Zosh.

I'm back from a trip out with my mum for a bit of shopping and lunch, and I put my Columbo hat on and went in search of car parking evidence to back up my friend's appeal against her parking fine. It seems McDonald's and the company known as MET parking have made national news before about their not-very-obvious parking restrictions and quickness to issue fines. Most receiving a parking penalty do not appeal. My friend is never going to be one of those people! It seems that, and beware folks, whilst a whole retail park may have very relaxed parking rules, McDonald's and MET limit your stay but are not always putting up clear signage to this effect. At this particular MD the parking sign was far away from the disabled bays. I am hoping that the appeal will be successful anyway.

I am in for the day now thank goodness as it looks like the heavens are going to open any minute now!

For what it's worth...... Some years back Mr. Z. met a colleague at a hotel in Swindon for a meeting, he was there for a couple of hours. A couple of weeks later he received a very official looking parking 'fine'. He was suspicious and googled it. It was not legal, he ignored it, at the suggestion of the comments that he read. We received a couple more 'demands' then nothing.... Never heard from them since !

re the parking fine.
we were sent one by an old peoples home in perranporth six or seven years ago. we had turned round in their car park - the engine hadn't even been turned off as we'd seen their notice. we were sent a parking fine request for fifty or a hundred quid and our daughter (a law student then) told us not to bother with it. it was not something that could be legal enforced and they would have to pay more at the small claims court than they could hope to get back - and they wouldn't have a leg to stand on anyway. we ignored it. nothing happened.

Good morning everyone,

After yesterday's stormy & wet weather the sun is shining this morning and it's supposed to get to 15C temperature wise. Yesterday it barely reached double figures.....
I'm hoping to get quite a bit done in the garden while it lasts. :)

Tonight I fancy baking some pollock in diced tomato & chorizo, I'll probably have that with baked baby spuds and either kale or spinach.

Morning All,

Weather is looking pretty good, we have the BBMF Lancaster flying over the dams on Wednesday, so lots of barriers being put up to prevent parking so tourists can watch at a safe distance, yesterday the crew putting the barriers up got a bit carried away - they blocked our road off at both ends   now sorted :tu:

Anyone visiting, the flight is due at 12:05 there will be two fly pasts, can't wait love the sound of the engines.

Not doing much today, garden just about sorted, not up to visiting Chesterfield market this week, but going to try a little trip on my bike not far OH has said a maximum of 30 minutes he will be at home 'on call' to rescue me if I get too tired

Have a good day folks

Morning everyone

Such excitement this morning! Back from the market and about to start preparing for S-i-L's visit when we dicovered Mr R had locked jupes in the veranda overnight with the inevitable consequences  Just got that sorted when there came a huge squealing from the chimney. I young starling had somehow got in there and was at first floor level. We opened the woodburner glass and waited and sure enough a very sooty bird emerged and flew round the dining room. It finally settle in the veranda and was trapped with an old towel and ejected. I hate birds flying near me

We had just put away the shopping and done the flowers - an armful of white scented stocks this week - when Grisette one of the outside cats appeared with a present for Jules. A still live and kicking baby rabbit. Rabbit rescued, cats distracted and bunny placed in safety (?) right down by the river. We had to have a stiff drink.

At least thats the three things and hopefully we can look forward to a peaceful afternoon.

There is a watering system in the garden, after a lot of internet searching last year Deb got it to work. This morning she tested the system. Imagine a bungalow in a rectangular plot with flexible hose around the garden walls as the watering system. The water supply enters via a meter in one corner of the garden, there is a timer attached to the meter. Each watering point had to be individually checked. I was in charge of turning the water on/off, unfortunately I could not hear Deb shout from the other side of the house. We ended up on the phone to each other so that I could follow instructions

Good evening everyone,
It turned into a glorious day here, over 22C on my deck mid afternoon, though cooling down rapidly now. I've spent most of it in the garden and for me got quite a lot done. Also had a nice sit in the sunshine on my rocking chair with my book, a naughty ice cream cone and a :mug: .
I'm glad I've planned an easy meal tonight as I really can't face standing for ages. Forecast looks promising tomorrow so I might start tackling the weeds in the front bed. I've found a long handled hoe and old pair of very long bbq tongs ideal for avoiding too much bending.
I think I mentioned that the beautiful begonia I had last year that had been carefully kept over the winter didn't seem to have survived, well it has and I swear the appearing shoot has doubled in size since this morning. :D

Evening all!

It has been not stop rain here today. So gloomy that after my workout on the bedroom wall, I perched for a bit with my lunch and a coffee, started watching Tipping Point, then before I knew it my phone rang waking me up at 6pm. I'd been having a very vivid dream where I was on a skiing holiday! It was lovely, very picturesque, then I woke up and looked out of my window....

Almost time to snuggle down in front of Eurovision. :cocktail:

Goodness Rats, what a day! The thought of a sooty bird flying round a clean room is not good.

Hooray for mobile phones Moira!

Hope the weather is good for the Lancasters.

The heating was on here yesterday afternoon, it only needed a boost of one degree but made all the difference. I spent most of my waking hours yesterday tackling laundry, a mound of paperwork and things resulting from the contents of the mail over the past 3 weeks and going through work emails. It seems endless and I am just an ordinary person with a mundane life .. I'd need a secretary if I was anything more! Now I'm off for a last blitz on the bits left from unpacking which don't yet have homes .. oh and some ironing. Then it'll be time for breakfast :chops: .

Off to collect a FREE table from Freegle later, it will make a potting up bench or a table in the Cathcart Hotel for the fluffs to sit on off the ground in the evening sun.

I still have some planting to do so really must get that done today.

Morning all,

Looks like a brighter day today. No rain yet! I ache all over and should be getting some decorating help today from family. I've enquired about a six rung step ladder on Freecycle but no reply so I guess it's gone. For a gentler day on my muscles I will probably give my rather sorry looking white wooden chest of drawers a coat of paint, just need to decide colour. White again or pale pink or pale blue. That's a nice sitting down with the TV job. I'm also in the throes of deciding whether to make peanut butter and banana bread for my visitors, but if there's a change of plan (highly likely!) then I'd have the chore of eating it all myself! In stages of course....

Right, onwards and upwards!

It's a sunny day here after a wet afternoon yesterday (more rain than was expected I think). Yesterday I accompanied close friend to try on a wedding dress at a shop in Tunbridge Wells. We had a lovely girlie day out though she didn't buy the dress. It was more a research trip than anything and I think she's now decided on getting a dress made. It won't be a 'traditional' wedding dress but if the ideas she has work out in practice, she'll look wonderful. I'm to be her bridesmaid. It'll be a small wedding as she's planning to get married abroad (Austria), but there'll be a 'bun fight' locally the following weekend.

Have a good day all

Good evening everyone,
Late on parade today as it has been another cracking day so spent most of it in the garden. Not as warm as yesterday, cardi required, but lovely just the same. I didn't venture to the front as I'm not feeling very bendy today, I contented myself with jobs I could do while mainly seated and managed to get a fair bit done. :D
I skipped breakfast, had a banana mid morning and then a naughty but nice lunch of tattie scone, lorne, black pudding, egg and tomato. It was scrumptious. I've defrosted a lamb steak for tonight which I'll griddle and have with shallots, steamed baby spuds, broad beans & runner beans.

I've spent the morning cooking and preparing so I can spend some time with them when they get here. I've planned a provencal style starter for tonight - ie lots of different dips and spreads, tapenade anchoiade and from a little further north cervelle de canut. I'm doing Phil Vickery's stir fried fillet of beef with asparagus and I've made a choux ring to fill with starwberries and cream.
