Order yourself a latte, and a pastry (The virtual cinnamon buns are excellent today). And have a nice chat.

'On the road again!' - I'm being moved!

Postby TeresaFoodie » March 20th, 2018, 6:54 pm

I am reeling from the shock of receiving a call from my local council this morning. They have allocated me a one bedroom first floor flat about six miles from this tiny bedsit where I am living now. Moving date ....... tomorrow!

I have spent most of today on the phone extending that by an additional day. One day was not enough! So tomorrow will be packing. I've already picked up some boxes, tape, black sacks and newspapers for packing. Amazing how much you can achieve quickly when you have to.

Anyway, after I almost passed out I thought, ok, panic ye not, this a good thing. More space, still on the bus route to the pool, a bath, a balcony for bicycle storage. No white goods, but I can manage for a short while (she says, kidding herself that being without an oven is NOT the end of the world!)

I will be on the edge of The Chilterns, so closer to walks. It's spring, so there could be worse times of the year to have to relocate at such short notice. I've booked a man with a van for Thursday. Nice neighbour is on hand to help.

I'll be sending out virtual flat warming invites to anyone here interested!

Entering the unknown. Bit scared!!! Wish me luck!!!

Sounds like good news, Tezza. Surprising how much you can do with a single ring hob and microwave if you have to, until you can get more white goods. Are there any local charity shops supplying fridges etc, if you can't buy new?

I found this - http://www.noahenterprise.org/shops/the ... ure-store/

Oh, my lovely friends! I knew I could count on you to help me to see this as the best thing that could have happened right now! I just spent two hours on the phone to my natterbox friend telling her all about it. She's so excited for me. My brain is all over the place right now but I'm sure Stephen and Harold (chilli) and my five cacti (yet to be named) will be by my side until they work their way to a compatible windowsill.

Am doing this tonight. :bounce: How will I sleep? :bounce:

Postby TeresaFoodie » March 21st, 2018, 6:32 am

I had a very much needed good quality sleep for about four hours then half woke up trying to work out what is happening today! I knew it was something big but it took a while to sink in! Then I shot bolt upright and thought noooooooooo! But have just read through your messages again and a little smile was formed.

Mum's coming over at 8am so we can go and find the place, get the keys. I've told her to clear her car boot so we can take a few things with us first trip. Might as well. I'd already thought of the van man possibly being untrustworthy (I don't trust anyone, golden rule!) but luckily my dad is paying by bank transfer once the job is done.

Hoping to update later on once I've got my head round my new location, and hope it's not to say 'OMG...........' Well, even if it is rough inside, I can make it home and make it my own. It looks ok from the outside from what I can see on Google.

Eek! :bounce:

Oh, also, I was supposed to be kitten sitting all of next week plus Easter, so first thing was to tell them I couldn't as moving away. They phoned to say pleeeeeeeese still do it, we don't want to put them in a cattery plus we trust you, we'll pay your travel expenses, which they did last night in advance when they brought the key round and wished me good luck with the move. Another reason for being happy to get out - as the key and travel money was changing hands on the doorstep, drunk neighbour fell halfway down the stairs shouting, swearing, kicked nice neighbour's door with all his might, told me he wanted to smash my 'beep' head in....the shouting and slamming about in his flat continued until he ran out of steam and probably fell asleep. The daily apologies and hand shakes for his bad behaviour will not wash today. I don't need to put up with his behaviour anymore. Good riddance.

Well that all sounds great. Tezza (Although I am surprised they can move you with so little notice. A private tenant would require at least a month. On the other hand, with neighbours like that, the sooner the better.) New proper flat, nice location potentially and a weekend of kitten!

The thing about 'notice' is that whoever is placing her there won't have authority to allow an overlap which would cover rent and council tax on two places for the duration. When budgets are tight costs have to be kept down. Not ideal but ...

Hope the move goes smoothly and that the flat and area are full of great possibilities :D

Ahhhhh.......and relax!

After over twelve hours solid sorting things out, including six hours at the council offices, I am finally taking a rest. I ache all over! I'm half packed but can do no more tonight. Exhausted, physically and mentally.

The flat? HUGE!!!!!!!!!! :bounce: The first thing I wanted to look at (obviously) was the kitchen. Massive, spotless, fully fitted, bright and airy due to the large window all along one wall, lovely windowsill for all my plants, no white goods at the moment but I am eligible for fridge / freezer, oven, washing machine, they will be delivered soon! The council got the wrong address when they described it to me. It has no bath but it has a huge wet room! Also, no balcony, but I do have a lockable shed! No carpets in the living or bedroom but I can live with that, I'll get some rugs! I love a nice rug! And, the decor is not quite to my taste, BUT.....I have been given a redecorating voucher for enough gloss and emulsion paint in colours of my choice to do the whole place up! And I notice the neighbourhood seems very respectable. I have a post office a short walk away, a Co-op directly opposite, a hair salon and a tattoo and piercing studio (must resist, must!)

This still hasn't really hit me yet!

Thanks folks!

I have just spent three hours on the phone to my very excited father and then my best mate, both chomping at the bit to find out how it went. Before that, I was so cream crackered I fell asleep halfway through Masterchef. Totally unheard of! Nuisance neighbour came home drunk again then started hammering on my door saying 'Teaser, Teaser!' I ignored. He went away. The relief of finally getting away from him is so immense I can draw a line and promise I'll never mention him again on here. Phew, I hear you all sigh a massive relief noise!
