Warning - Unsecure site

Postby Amber » April 17th, 2018, 9:24 pm

I ‘had’ to log in to post about Muriel :( , but I’ve avoided posting for the past few days, because every time I started to log in, I got a red warning that the site is unsecure. I’m fairly sure this isn’t the norm, is it? I was (am) a bit worried. (Fortunately I do have a different password for WF)

No, I'm not getting that on any of my devices
Can you tell if the message is comng from, for example, your antvirus? Is there any other wording?

Nor me. Sue's comment reminds me that I do get that with various usually mundane sites when my Norton checks need running. Could it be something like that?

No problem here, but next to the www. address there is a I in a circle rather than a padlock.

I looked it uop. The i symbol just means that your connection to the site is not private, which is what you'd expect for a public forum. Infact it's what we used to consider a "normal" site, it doesn't mean it's unsafe unless you enter details like your credit card
The padlock symbol applies to secure sites (https) that you might use for shopping
I half knew this, so I thought (and still think) maybe Amber has antivirus or malware fighter software that warns her when she goes to any i site?

Here's a link to another food forum, an i site that I believe to be safe. It also uses the same programming as this one so orobably a good test

Amber, do you have Rapport loaded onto your PC? That happens with Rapport because it's a site not protected by them, it doesn't mean there's a problem with the site.

The i symbol is on the web address for the Gardeners World forum too ... perfectly normal for public sites. :)

Rapport is a good candidate I think - I had to take it off my pc as it interfered with so many things. Local bank manager is unimpressed by it too (and he's a bit of a techie)

Yes, Rapport has been and gone here too. I'm not sure it's all gone as some of the problems still seem to be around. I'm going to do a "clean" install of the next software upgrade, and only add the utilities as I need them.

I got that message when I had to log in earlier. I use an iPad too. I’m usually signed in automatically but had got logged out for some reason. Is it related to this maybe? https://www.thesslstore.com/blog/apple-insecure-form-warning/

Sorry, I read the post but didn’t register the link.

It certainly doesn’t look like that, but sounds like it might be a poossibikity.

i have started getting the exclamation mark in a circle with the words 'website not secure' when i go to the log-in page (i don't do the automatic log-in).
maybe it's just an apple thing. it disappears when i'm on the forum and it's only been happening over the past few days. maybe it's part of the (security issue) update that was done for safari recently.

I do have a problem with rapport, I am going to uninstall it, it's more trouble than its worth, it seems to block programmes nothing to do with it.
