Sorry to mention such a topic but since when was Australia part of Europe, somehow Israel sneaked in a few ago

PLEASE do not vote for Cyprus, there is not a large enough concert hall/ conference centre here not to mention we cannot afford it.

I love Eurovision! Cheesy and extravagant. Of course the UK will not win! I didn't realise Australia are taking part. Eh??? How does that work?

I don't waste my money voting.

This is at least the third year that Australia have taken part

We did not watch it for decades then happened to be in one night it was on - the one with the bearded bloke in a dress... Great nights entertainment ! Hilariously funny to watch...... Sadly we will miss it this year....... I still miss Terry Wogan's wit commentating on it.

I really hated the way that Terry Wogan took the mickey out of the evening and am disappointed that it seems to have continued like that. It used to be a fun evening but that and the political voting has taken a lot of the fun and fair play away. Still good for people to get together and watch but not as exciting as it was in the days when crackly voices from faraway exotic sounding places came over the airwaves. As for Australia .. a bit odd especially when you read the justification for it which seems to relate to TV advertising revenue as much as anything else. It was all over the TV there last week - more than the build up we get here these days.

That's good news Moira. I loved the Cyprus entry, their dance routine was superb.

Poor SuRie. Well done to the idiot trying to ruin her act. You failed!

If I were to vote, I would be torn between three.

Denmark - Vikings chanting in stormy weather, love it, love it, love it!

Hungary - heavy metal, crowd jumping, great drums, great energy, brilliant!

Israel - a great voice, an animated singer, such fun and who wouldn't love the lyrics and the lucky cats? Go girl!

So, soon the results. I thought I'd be asleep by now but it's been a great show. The power of music, eh? Nothing else quite like it.

He is still in police custody so he will be taken to court at some point
Seems he's done it several times before, so if Eurovision has paid for facial recognition software, I suggest they demand a refund

I agree, what an idiot that guy is... But this year's Eurovision was among the worst I've ever seen. Nothing really memorable except that dumb moment.

I am at a complete loss to understand why ANYONE watches the Europhlision Pong Contest 8-) 8-) It is soooo cheesy, kitsch, artificial, banal...wow, I´ve run out of pejorative adjectives... and the winning "song" was possibly the worst chicken imitation I´ve ever heard.
Still, MILLIONS watch it across the world, so I´m probably in a tiny minority.
Thank goodness

Of course :D Although I did feel that this year's was a little lacking in cheese and kitsch compared to the past couple of years. No one yet to compete with Conchita Wurst 8-) ;)

I loved that crazy chicken woman! Anyone who is brave enough to cluck in front of thousands worldwide wins my vote hands down! I wish the UK would get out of their boring tradition of rolling out songs that nobody will ever remember and get someone up there doing something daft instead. We might (only might) have a chance of getting away from the bottom of the pile.

If one does not take it too seriously, it can be great fun. I always spend the night online with friends on a small private board, commenting with them as the evening progresses. That way it is very entertaining.

I also enjoy listening to other countries' favourites. Some of the Balkans' offerings can be fun.
This year's round-up was actually quite good. I really liked the quiet Portugese entry and the paprika-infused Moldovans.
As for political votings: the juries sometimes do that, but the phone votes are often straight from the belly. If an entry is good and hits a nerve, then it has a good chance, no matter where it is from. Germans were always complaining that our often godawful entries weren't getting any support. Well, along came Lena, hit a nerve and won. And this year's boy had a good voice and a good song and got loads of votes.
SuRie got less than she deserved. It was a good song and well performed. I think she should have taken the opportunity of a repeat performance. She might not have won, but there would have been better innings.

This was done in Germany a few decades ago (the 1920s or '30s) by the world's first boy-group, the Comedian Harmonists.

Still on the chicken (and singing, of sorts) theme, I once sang the main chorus of this song with my partner at the time as our home answer phone message. We ended the recording with lots of clucking. I'd forgotten about that until now!

There's also Louis Jordan's "Ain't Nobody Here but Us Chickens" He was far to cool to flap his wings but he certainly clucked

Maybe next year they can come up with a song about Cock Robins, with suitable innuendos, or perhaps persuade Dylan Hartley to sing a song about Shire Horses. :P :P :P
