The day we nearly died part 2, the day I nearly

Postby hickybank » November 24th, 2018, 12:29 pm

Glad to get this month over with.
Woke up last night with indigestion, no tablets so decided to have a glass of warm milk.
put pan with milk on stove while I got a glass
Lifted the pan off the heat & did a finger test to check temperature.
As I did this unfortunately my dressing gown passed over the gas flame.
There was a pop & the whole sleeve was alight in seconds.
As I still had the pan in my hand I turned to the sink & threw it in.
To my horror I could see the flames reflected in the glass window & it had now spread to the back of the gown.
Panic set in as I had to untie the belt to remove it
I pulled it up over my head to protect me from the flames & luckily it landed inside out on the floor so extinguished to flames.
It really shook me up & brings home just how near tragedy can be, & the dangers of flame & nightclothes.
Fine now though but a warning to everyone

Was the dressing gown man-made fibre Terri? Food for thought if you often go wanding near naked flames in the middle of the night ;)

scary - i usually have the opposite problem of trailing the sleeve in water in the sink - or in my coffee. towelling is very absorbent (but thankfully less flammable).
