The very best one is Lanterna run by Giorgio Alessi but it was up for sale last year as he wanted to retire so am guessing it may be gone or in other hands now. He is wonderful and his wife was a marvellous hostess.

Had amazing spider crab spaghetti there and a zabaglione which was hand-whisked at the table. One of my most memorable meals ever. Nothing else came close but Ingham’s Fish and chipper in nearby Filey was also fabulous. (They didn’t take cards and had an old fashioned till).

Suspect BB is your girl for this.

My only recommendation is Harbour Bar for a Mr Whippy in vintage 1950s surroundings. Most chippies in the area fry in lard or dripping so haven’t had chips there for years.

I would absolutely second The Harbour Bar on the seafront for a 1950’s coffee/ice cream parlour experience, and Lanterna which if still open is superb. I have checked the web site, it’s a bit vague but you could ring and check.

We don’t often eat in Scarborough itself other than fish and chips, the best of which is The Fry Pan, again on the front. It’s not remotely posh or glamorous but does great fish and chips.

Do you have access to transport Sue or are you restricted to trains etc? I’m off to Scarborough on Thursday, I will have a better look in town to see what’s open and thriving.

Thanks all
Lanterna looks excellent but a bit pricey - this lot accuse me of picking expensive places, not really appreciating that in a London pub £7 is decent for a glass of Chardonnay and a packet of crisps!

Will look at the f & c places, but we need a veggie option

Not sure about transport, we are probably up fo a short drive but depends, we might only have 2 cars

Not going until mid-September

Not tried it, but Capplemans chippy has a vegan menu and fry separately. I’ve had my eye on it for a while, but rarely make it across to the east coast now https://m.facebook.com/Capplemans/

North Riding brewery are based in Scarborough and do some lovely dark beers.

An absolute disaster on the scoping exercise I’m afraid Sue.

If you look at my Facebook post you will see that I visited the Spa complex - see the sign about not washing your feet in the sink! the food didn’t look much better than very average, although the glass of wine I had was rather good. We then walked along the front and went in a fish and chip place opposite the harbour, it was nothing special to look at but a decent fish supper with Yorkshire caviar and cups of tea cost a whopping £72.50 for six of us, which I thought rather good value.

We then went to the Open Air Theatre to see Kylie, who was absolutely fabulous. So, all in all not much help I’m afraid.
