I once had a jar of Welsh mustard … it was bright red and extremely hot :shock: Also a honey mustard which was both hot and sweet and delicious. Otherwise my stock of mustard is really only Dijon and English.
No-one knows if you've done your housework, but everyone knows if you've done your gardening !

Many B&Bs or hotels serving cooked breakfast haven't got mustard as a standard option and this has been a bit of a grumble here for years :D

Sausages, black pudding, ham require some sort of mustard I feel.

My father grew up with mustard made from powder and vinegar, he was disabused of the notion when he joined the navy. We always had Colman's powder at home, I brought shame upon the family by trying French mustards of different types. These days we've always got a pot of powder in the cupboard, plus a jar of something else - wholegrain (sometimes HM), Dijon, Tewkesbury, or something we've seen that took our fancy.

Not great fans of American mustard but we both quite like the mustard relish with gherkins in it.

Mustard was always an invalid choice on Danny Baker's sausage sandwich game, in the days before the host was more controversial than the sandwich.

I keep Colemans powder mostly for making picalilli - reminds self - time to make a batch!. Mr R sometimes asks for Englishit when we have beef

There was a BB story in which he had a magic tube of toothpaste which could be any flavour he asked it to be. (I guess this sounds less amazing these days when it seems almost anything can be customized...). Bobby Brewster's favourite food was tinned sardines in tomato sauce, so...
He regretted his choice and, I think, had to get through to the end of the tube before he could change it.

Don't start me on inappropriate party costumes :) I have a favourite (as in source of amusement/horror) purveyor of such in Flers, Normandy.They sell one that's essentially a toilet with inflatable toilet bowl attached at the front. Now that's just asking for trouble...

This particular party shop sells supplies for the whole show from start to finish... costumes, (inflatable body parts...), decorations, balloons, table cloths, glasses, paper plates, napkins, plus mops, cloths and cleaning fluids. And, bizarrely, one euro packets of unbranded cigarettes!

If it were not France, they would probably be selling Ibuprofen and Alkaseltzer too.

Gloriously tacky and tasetless (but some nice decorations too, in every possible shade, which is, of course, mainly why I go in :) )

I am in a cafe/bar which serves all kinds of breakfast butty. I ordered a sausage one. Asked if I wanted sauces I asked for mustard. The keen and willing young man dashed off and has presented me with an unopened bottle of French's (the American stuff). I accepted gratefully but felt rather sad that to his generation this is what is meant by mustard and I am a grouchy old fossil. :cry:

That's a shame EM. A bit watery and vinegary is that. I can only imagine it being any good on hot dogs with fried onions and ketchup.

The Hungry Horse I ate at recently, and will probably return to tomorrow, asked us of we wanted sauces. The young lad waiting at our table looked as though he almost wanted to apologise for the fact that they only had English! I'm doing this :hungry: and nodding with a face that said 'Bring it on young man!' :lol:

I don't think one can assume that French's is what mustard is to that generation... as I said, I was brought some nose imploding stuff by a young lad the other week, in a pub. It depends on what they have, surely. It is usually English (when not American) though, when one asks for it. Never been brought Dijon - more pricey I suppose.

Weirdly, I noticed I had a bottle of French's on my bookshelves at work. I don't remember buying it or trying it. I also have Coleman's in the fridge...

I notice that W*spoons used to have Heinz English mustard but now offer Colman's and French's. as they don't waste money on what won't get used up, that must be customer pressure
