Mary Quant ‘Georgie’ dress

Have just seen on the V & A website that you can download a free sewing pattern to make your own Georgie dress.

I just might have a go...........well my friend will probably have to sort me out a few times, but you get my gist.

Thought other sewing Wildies might like it.

I saw the other pattern but preferred the Georgie one, it looks more forgiving, especially in the longer mid calf version.

They're both gorgeous.... :luv:

You are clever to be able to do something like that BB! Wish I could sew.

I haven’t really sewn in years but I have a friend who will guide me through the process.

I have a MQ dress I made back then still hanging in my wardrobe - not like me to do that. however I simply never wear dresses now.

A bow on my tummy would not be flattering. After the initial fashion, that shift dress was standard for older women for years wasn't it!

My mum and I made a couple of versions of the shift dress but I doubt I could do it now

I own shift dresses... I think I can get away with them. Straight/shirt dresses with ties round the waist, though, make me look like a 1970s pensioner. I am short waisted though.

Has this dress anything to do with the song "Georgie Girl" or with the film???

I wondered that but the film is actually Georgy Girl and the original book by Margaret Forster wasn't published until 1964, though the dress was released in 1962, so just a coincidence

Thanks for that! It's sometimes diffucult to find out about the finer points.

A crew cut for boys was called "Mecki" here when I was a kid. After a cartoon hedgehog. :aww:
