RIP Gary Rhodes

Very shocked to read this just now in the Guradian. His TV series in the 90s probably sparked my interest in more "cheffy" cooking. https://www.theguardian.com/food/2019/n ... es-aged-59

That is really sad news. He was one of the best TV chefs of his time to bring interesting ideas to ordinary people IMO, with a great personality. Seemed to have done well with his move to the middle east as well.

Isn't it sad? I had no idea he was poorly. It sounds like he'd been ill for some time being as his wife was at his bedside, etc. Cancer I presume... what a talent he was...

According to the Daily Mail   Jamie Oilver tweeted that Rhodes had died after a fall. He then deleted the tweet.

No, he wasn’t ill until just before he died according to what I’ve read, in fact he was working on a TV series. Which is why only he and his wife were there in Dubai. I do hope she has someone with her.

This from The Telegraph obit:

Rhodes was appointed OBE in 2006, and in 2011 he moved to Dubai, where he ran two restaurants – Rhodes W1 and Rhodes Twenty10, and where he died. A production company that was working with him on a new television series has said that he was suddenly taken ill during a break in filming.
