My work colleague is going into hospital tomorrow and is having surgery on Friday for her cancer. Apparently it has spread and is in her kidneys and lungs. We all finish work on Friday so will probably not hear any updates till we go back in the New Year.

I am also lighting a candle for my brother in law's family as they lost one of their dogs today. B had eaten something he shouldn't and it blocked his intestines. He died during surgery but it turns out he had cancer and wouldn't have lived much longer anyway

I shall be lighting my candle tonight in memory of the Lockerbie crash. I remember that night 30 years ago - all the more because DD was travelling home from France for Christmas and her plane was very late - no reason given. We didn't even know which airline she had taken from paris becausee oi had been a last minute deal. I think it was about 2.ooam when she eventually got home. At least she did get home ..........

Wil be lighting a candle tonight and raising a glass of Merlot (a running joke) in memory of a friend who was diagnosed with MND 18 months ago and finally died yesterday.

I have just had the dreadful news that a lovely young man we know has died in a surfing accident in Sri Lanka. He was in Sri Lanka when the tsunami struck in 2004 - he lost all his possessions and was taken care of by the local community. Jon was a very talented photographer with a passion for food, on his return to the UK he set out to produce a book to raise money for the people who had helped him. The Local's Cookbook was created and has been mentioned in the Guardian and other top flight publications. I would ask that you light a candle for Jon and his family and friends - a light has gone out in our lives. Maybe some of you would like to buy his book - the profits go to the people that he took to his heart. He died doing one of the things he loved best in the place that he loved. RIP Jonno we will miss your beautiful face and your lovely heart.

You would love him - everybody did. He was the most beautiful human being - mad as a box of frogs but simply lovely. He died doing what he loved best.

Very sad for anyone to die young but I suppose it's positive that he died doing something he loved so much. He sounds like someone who will without doubt live on in the memories of everyone who knew him.

I will be lighting a candle soon in memory of the only grandchild I will ever have. Rebecca died 27 years ago today, only living for 20 minutes and born at 25 weeks. My daughter has never really recovered …..
