Order yourself a latte, and a pastry (The virtual cinnamon buns are excellent today). And have a nice chat.

Nope. Might be a cookie issue, try clearing them and then logging in again.

Hi,
WWordsworth wrote:For the last couple of days I have had to log in every time I visit.
Have you tweaked something or is the problem at my end?

This is a phenomenonenenon - err - event that happens to me from time to time, though not on _every_ login. I usually manage to trace the cause, which is a regular clean up of my windows system. Firefox (which is the browser I use) stores all the login info (which Wildfood sends in a "cookie") in a special place and this grows and grows until it gets cleared out. Normally it shouldn't lose the details but it can.

As Lee suggests, you might have to clear your cookies. But before you do, have a look at your settings. When you log in there's a little square you can tick to tell Wildfood "log me in automatically when I visit". It's worth making sure that this is ticked. Otherwise, of course you won't be. Good luck.

I have had the same problem as Wwordsworth for a good couple of weeks, both on my home PC and on my mobile using home wi-fi, but not at work.

I haven't tried the cookie thing (wouldn't know where to start) and have been ticking the 'keep me logged on each time' icon but still have to sign in on each log on.

Pretty sure I will sort it eventually but until then am just putting up with it really.

Hi Tezza, I reckon we can possibly talk you through it. What program do you use to look at Wildfoods with? (Web browser) Commonest ones are Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome. When you are looking at a Wildfood page, what do you see at the very top of the screen?

I have

The name "Mozilla Firefox" is the name of the browser.

I have the log out problem on my home computer, but not on my work one

Both are running Windows 7 and IE 8 with the latest upgrades

I've tried to get my security settings to match on both, but it still happens at home

My suspicons currerntly centre on an over-zealous set of sytem tools, think I might chuck that program and get a good one

An odd problem I am having is that I can't access http://www.bbcgoodfood.com from my (work) laptop)

It doesn't matter whose link I follow, or whether I type the address in the bar, I get a 404 file not found message, consistently over the last 3 weeks. No other site is affected

I don't want to delete all cookies, but I might try locating that one

Help needed please ! As I did not resize my last avatar (someone else did it for me). We have just spent the last hour and a half trying and not suceeding to get a picture to the size required for an updated avatar. Mr Zosh has given up and I cannot seem to succeed either. Is there some instructions somewhere you can recommend ? We have tried various sites like cut my pix but they are not so friendly !!!

Thanks in advance.

What image processing software d you have on your computer. Did you know that you can resize using "paint"?

Bad luck Zosh. I have to admit that "paint" is not my favourite software, but if you use Windows "Help" you will see the following.

To resize a picture using Paint
Click to open Paint.

Click the Paint button Picture of the Paint button, click Open, click the picture you want to resize, and then click Open.

On the Home tab, in the Image group, click Resize.

In the Resize and Skew dialog box, select the Maintain aspect ratio check box so that the resized picture will have the same aspect ratio as the original picture.

If the Maintain aspect ratio check box is selected, you only need to enter the horizontal value (width) or vertical value (height). The other box in the Resize area is updated automatically.

Do one of the following in the Resize area, and then click OK:

To resize your picture by a certain percentage, click Percentage, and then enter a percentage to reduce the width by in the Horizontal box or a percentage to reduce the height by in the Vertical box.

To resize the picture so it's a specific size, click Pixels, and then enter a new width in the Horizontal box or new height in the Vertical box.

Click the Paint button Picture of the Paint button, point to Save as, and then click the picture file type for the resized image.

Type a new file name in the File name box, and then click Save.

If you still can't get that to work, then just attach the picture you want resized in an email to me and I'll reduce it till it is right for a new avatar and return it. You've got my email address I think.

I'm back having taken a random image (a photo of a tart as it happens) and resized it.

This is the original - cropped to be roughly square.

And here it is resized to be an avatar.

Just to show that it can be done. You might have to play with the select and crop functions in paint, but it's not that hard. Just be sure you are working on a copy of the photo you want to use and not on the original.

Well, it's Jacquie who does it - I don't possess the requisite patience. Two things really. She takes care to cut all the slices exactly the same thickness. (Care, patience and a very sharp knife), she arranges them very carefully round the outside of the tart first, reserving the slightly smaller slices off the ends to be used in the inner ring or middle. But sometimes she keeps a slightly smaller apple for these inside layers and just munches any slices that aren't right. The overlap also has to be even. Then she sprinkles a little castor over them, and when the tart is cooked, glazes with an apricot glaze to make the finish look glossy. Apricot glaze is merely jam, pushed through a sieve and then boiled up with a little extra sugar. You can find recipes all over, but I'm afraid I don't have timings or quantities in my head. You might not have noticed that the apples are arranged on a sweetened flavoured concentrated apple puree.

I see to my chagrin that I've not put the recipe we use anywhere on line. I'll have to correct that soon.

Not sure where to ask this, but I was wondering if a 'what's on' thread might be a good/nice/useful idea - one where people post foody events they know about.

I could just create one, but these things tend to get bumped off the bottom.

Don't know if it's just me, but suddenly the Board's behaving differently - instead of taking me to the first post that I've not read on a thread (when I click on the little square to the left of the thread heading) it now takes me to the top of the page that the first unread post is on - not huge problem but a little odd :? it's usually so reliable.

Edited to add: only on some threads - not all :?

I have been meaning to post this for ages, weeks pretty much. Has anyone else got problems choosing 'view your posts' from the options at the top of the screen? Mine just freezes up so I have to go through coffee shop or kitchen.

As Suffolk said, not a huge problem at all, just a bit weird that's all.

I just had another go and it egg timers for about 30 seconds and then I give up waiting (impatient? moi?)

It's the same at work and at home. I do still have the problem where my username and password has to be reset when on my home laptop, but that isn't an issue at work.

Weird.

And again... I have just listed all tezza's posts and that took 57 seconds to appear. Tezza has twice as many posts as me.

I do find the wildfood search of "View your posts" a bit slower than on other boards I use, but not by a lot. 28 seconds to search on the motoring forum with the same board software, just now.

I tried again and it took ages (about 40 seconds) but it did work.

I only flagged it because it never used to be this slow and then all of a sudden it became incredibly slow overnight. I see that if I post a lot it might slow things up, but even so these days I don't think I post as much as I used to so didn't think it would be something as basic as that.

Anyway, thanks for the comments on this, and I believe I have now learned a lesson in patience. :D

I do roughly the same as Luca, only I context click and open a new tab.(Context click is to press the opposite button to the one you press to "click". The buttons can be reversed for left hand use, so strictly it's no good talking about right or left buttons).

Is anyone else finding that email alerts re PMs are taking some time to arrive now? During the day yesterday I received emails alerting me to PMs sent to me on 10th and 11th Dec. :?

This is not the first time, it's been happening like this over the past few weeks.

I'm getting the alerts straight away. I'm not sure why yours would be delayed.

Well I didn't know that before, great tip, Luca, thanks, it saves all that effort of right-click, not that I am lazy

Good.

I've just checked that any member can delete their own post.

But we can only delete if we notice a duplication or change our minds before someone else posts - once there is another post the cross disappears :D
