Try picking up the bottom right hand corner of the browser window and dragging the window smaller. Do you lose more of the right hand side of the picture? I do.

I can see the full picture in all cases. Of course I'm using a proper browser with a proper computer.  (PC, 1920px wide screen with Firefox 19.00 :geek: ) By the way, I recognise the bus, it's in Budapest.

Don't you worry your pointy little head, Sharron. Just geegspeak :ugeek: :ugeek:

Do you mean dragging the picture? If so, nothing happens. I put the curser to the edge of the picture and click and I get a circle thing with a line through it. What do you mean by browser?

Your internet browser JRC. Internet Explorer, Firefox, chrome etc etc. The window itself.

Ah, I think I know what's happening then. If the HTLM source says a picture should have a fixed size the browser truncates from the right. thus (won't work, it's just cut and pasted to show the syntax) <img src="../images/bedroom_la_clauzure_correze_france_tn.jpg" width="152" height="101" alt="photo of bedroom La Clauzure Correze France" title="B&amp;B room in Correze France" border="0" />

If you want the picture to resize you need. <img src="../images/bedroom_la_clauzure_correze_france_tn.jpg" width="100%" height="100%" alt="photo of bedroom La Clauzure Correze France" title="B&amp;B room in Correze France" border="0" />

See the subtle difference?

The browser is the software that you use to look at the internet. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome etc.

I expect that you are using Internet Explorer.

Click on the right hand edge of the Internet Explorer window, not the picture. You should see a double headed arrow. Hold the mouse button down on the arrow and more from side to side. The window should change size. Does the picture shrink and enlarge as you do this, or do you just see more or less of the picture?

Not necessarily, Will, if the browser is set to "full screen" as mine is, then you don't have that function. JRC, on the very top right of your screen you should see three little squares the middle one gives the possibility of switching between full screen and windowed mode. Click on it and you should see what I mean. On its left the icon reduces the screen to the task bar and the right had one kills the program.

Ian, I have the three squares as you describe. The middle one is a single square. If I click on it, it turns into two slightly smaller squares one on top of the other.

Just been away shopping and baking!! :tu: :tu:

I'm not sure that there is a solution. I think that your computer screen is too small!! :)

Or you may be able to change your screen resolution. I'm probably not the man to talk you through this. You need someone with a Windows computer to do that. I have an Apple Mac and it "works different".

Just to join in here :) some pics on here are sometimes too big (Lee's are often too big) and I have to right-click on them and view them in a separate window. No idea why but that's the way I get around it without having to be technical. :D

Yup, that's right. Well, when you click so that the two smaller squares are displayed there, then it means that whatever is there is in "windowed" mode instead of "full screen" mode. When in windowed mode, you can click on the bottom right and corner and pull it diagonally up and left and the whole window will get smaller. Equally, clicking and moving the mouse when the cursor is on any edge will let you increase or decrease the width or height of the window. If you do that when the picture of Budapest is showing, you will see that more and more of the right hand side of the image disappears. At the same time, you should see a repositioning bar at the bottom, so you can shift what's shown in the window.

None of this really helps, because I'm fairly sure this is a question of screen resolution and image size. Imagine trying to see a picture 2 feet wide through a window 1 foot wide. You can't see the whole picture.

Natch.. but as you said earlier, if there's an image that's - say - 1290px wide, then unless the browser is allowed to by the HTML code in the page, a screen of 1024px wide in total, with an effective viewing area of around 800px wide cannot ever show the full image.

In fact this is becoming an increasingly serious problem. With desktops regularly having resolutions well over 1500px in width, one is tempted to design an HTML page with a background image of 1600px, or include images that are over 1000px width. However, when more and more people are browsing with tablets (resolution around 1000px or less) or smartphones, even smaller screen sizes, such large image sizes are making modern website less and less legible. The buzz word nowadays is "responsive" which means that the website can ask the software that accesses it what its screen dimensions are, and modify its output accordingly. A really well designed modern responsive website looks virtually identical on everything from a little Nokia to a mammoth widescreen desktop.

Here are two example pages of no particular interest in themselves. This oneis not resizable

This one is. See what happens when you make the window a lot smaller. In the first, the images don't resize but eventually lose position. In the second, the main one and logo do become smaller, while the thumbnails on the right don't.

Just a quickie....
When I used to click on the icon 'View first unread post', it used to take me to... first unread post.
Now it takes me to the top of the page and I have to manually scroll down to where I think I last read. Only an inconvenience, not a major matter, but just wonder what has changed.

It should goto the page then direct you to the first unread post in that thread. If it's a thread with pictures in though it can get confused as the photos load after the re-direction.

Okay folks, inserting photos.........once upon a blue moon I used to upload to Photobucket and then insert a link. Then someone pointed out I could just insert them directly from my PC without all that messing about. I seem to recall a 'browse' icon at the bottom of the quick reply field. So much easier. But it ain't there no more. I'll revert back to Photobucket for now (annoying......) but in the meantime can anyone point me in the right direction on how to insert them directly again?

Nope. We do have a system (which has been incredibly effective) to reduce spam, which puts new users into "probation" rather in the way the Beeb did. When we (the mods) confirm that they are people who are sending "proper" messages rather than using the board purely to promote commercial websites (or worse) their membership becomes confirmed (by one or other of the administrators) and they can post as many messages as they like, as often as they like, just like anyone else.

Thankyou both for the explanation. I had posted on the Parents thread, waited and then it flagged up at the top of the page that I 'could not post so soon after my last post' so thought the 2 minute rule had been put in place but what had actually happened was that there were two of the same posts from me so I deleted the second. Thanks again.

You'll remember that a while ago I had password problems, exacerbated by the fact that for some reason the reset emails didn't get into my Outlook Inbox - thankfully the password problem was solved by Rio :kneel: :luv: .

However, the problem with password reset emails and PM notification emails remained - until yesterday - when I received emails notifying me of some PMs.

I've done nothing to my Outlook account, so nothing's changed this end ........... Confused but Happy of Norfolk :? :D

Have you got a folder for Spam or Junk? I don't use Outlook, but my e-mail has a Junk mail folder and stuff that the software thinks is spam goes straight there without me seeing it first. But I can open it and look. You missing e-mails may be in there.

Nope, not in Spam or Junk or Banned or anywhere - I've been through it all with a fine-toothed comb - and as I said, I'm now getting the emails again without having changed anything at all - very strange :?

Still, as long as I'm getting them 8-)

I have been a bit concerned about Cher New Cook and sent her a PM a couple of days ago. It is sitting in my outbox still, has she left the board thus making it undeliverable?

She was last on the Board at the beginning of the month - hasn't she had some parent probs in the past? Maybe she's away from home sorting something out? Hope she's ok

She was having employer trouble, I had PM'd her with some good advice for which she thanked me but seems to have disappeared since.

Hi Carol,

Yup, she last logged in on the 2nd May. So that makes a fortnight. There was nothing in any of her most recent posts that make one think she was worried or cross. My guess would be that she's had internet connection or computer problems. That said, I don't know if the Admins have heard or noticed anything untoward.

Zosh - I haven't got anything sitting there waiting for me to read.

Let me PM you and see if you get that.

Hoping one of the other Mods might be able to assist if not as I am clueless as to why you may be having PM problems.

For the last couple of days I have had to log in every time I visit.
Have you tweaked something or is the problem at my end?
