What are you drinking right now?

Down below the coffee shop is the cellar. Perfect for keeping the home made tipples a bit stronger than coffee or tea :-)

Just a glass of fridge cold fizzy water, very thirsty after picking raspberries (thank god the majority of the glut is over) and digging tatos for tomorrows tea.

Had a white wine (Chardonnay) spritzer at lunch and as we are having lamb fillets tonight I think a nice red Bordeaux is in order. Coolish from the cellar :D

Lovely choice of wine Elisa. We're having a rather more inferior glass of red tonight and debating what dvd to watch. Or should I say the men are debating.... I shall head off and read my book soon.

Merci Lucinda. My choice indeed for our national holiday tomorrow and we certainly do not do this every day. I thought it was a decent excuse to get out a nice bottle ;)

Happy reading!

We had a Kir Royal while out as apéritif.

Red wine is Nipozzano of 2005 today. A beautifully well balanced chianti from Frescobaldi.

A bottle of Cotleigh's Barn Owl - a local brew - whilst I'm waiting for my bread to come out of the oven.

(The last lot hasn't even gone in yet! :()

A little while ago I had a small glass of home-made red whilst eating my supper (left-over pizza and spicy wedges).

Good stuff!

At this precise moment, I'm (thoroughly) enjoying a glass of Sta Carolina Carmenère, Reserve, whilst I think through my Indian Food Course #1 (revised) for tomorrow.
This varietal has to be one of my favourite tipples. The tannins are there - but very subtle. The nose is predominantly blackcurrant, with a slight suggestion of wood. It's an easy wine to drink - neither too fruity, nor too woody, nor too acidic.
What's more, I can pick up a bottle for less than a fiver (local currency!)

What is your local currency Clive? Your Carmenere sounds great. We usually buy Bordeaux reds for anywhere from 6 to 12€. We stock some too, so we sometimes go to the vineyards. :D

Having got back from camping earlier today I poured myself a glass of ultra chilled fino which was languishing in the fridge... I think I may graduate to a glass of Rioja with a slice of cheese. For some reason my appetite has shrunk. Nothing to do with bacon, eggs, mushrooms, homegrown tomatoes, sausages and home made bread for breakfasts of course... All cooked over a camp fire which was usually laid and lit by one of the sons... and washed up by the other... Slave labour did I hear you say.... :D

I like a good chilled Rosé and will look out for that. Always useful to have a wine box in the fridge I find.

I had black pudding for lunch having skipped breakfast, I had some little morcilla and chorizo (the tapas sized ones) with a warm salad of new pots, yellow courgette, and green beans with a pesto dressing. Yum

I am currently drinking El Muro Tempranillo Garnacha, a nice fairly light, smooth, red wine at a darn good price (£4.99) - I bought it as I have been buying the Garnacha Rosé from El Muro, same price and really very nice indeed, Both recommended, but specially the rosé.

Going back to my recommendation of EL Muro - when I went back to it the next day I thought the red was as good if not better than the rosado - it had blossomed overnight

So I put the right glasses on and read the label - turns out that the importer/wholesaler is Bibendum, and they have rosado, tinto and blanco on their site, all at £5.25, all DOP Carinena

Must try the white

Here's the tinto

http://www.bibendum-wine.co.uk/retail/wine-details/11MUR10B2008/El+Muro+Tinto+Tempranillo%2FGarnacha+%28D%2EO+Carinena%29+2008+75+cl

Think this might be the house wine for a while...

Endive, Does it have much flavour as soup, or do you add a flavour??????

On the drinking right now subject, I got home from my cheffing lunch session and really fancied a glass of Vouvray. It was the last one in the fridge - 2005 - exquisite ! almost like a sherry and Oh! so golden. The sun was shining, warm breeze blowing gently and there I was back on the banks of the Loire with the tall reeds wafting to and fro......... Memories of our first break in France, about 20 years ago when I first discovered Vouvray..............Anyway I need another now - so Toodle Pip

Cheers Zosherooney! Vouvray is an excellent choice! As for the soup I did not make it this time just wolfed down the courgette in several goes, sauteed in the pan with olive oil and fresh oregano and chives. And yes I do flavour the soup: stock, shallots, chives, flatleaf parsley, sometimes mint, s&p. I make it very thick and add a smily of crème fraîche before serving ;)

I'm having a cool drink of sparkling water with lemon at the moment!

You are good with your water and lemon, I have nearly finished the Vouvray all on my own, how decadant ! Asprin sarnie in the morning !!!!
