This one was in the UK in late summer, the long tendrils were part of the shrub too. Hope you feel better soon Suff.

It has been suggested that this is a Pecan tree?

The GW member said that pecan wax only a tentative suggestion although he thinks the flowers look right. That's the only suggestion they've come up with so far.

The leaves on your pikkie Sue are quite walnutty, the leaves on my specimen were much lighter in weight and delicate. Still interested to know what it might be.

I've done a bit more searching - have a look at Pterocarya x rehderiana and see what you think.

That looks a bit more like the racemes to me- pecan catkins are quite dense and fluffy looking, proper catkins, but these are kind of stringy

I picked this is Spain recently, about the size of an avocado but spongey with a milky white sap. The plant was a vine type of growth.

This was a giant radish - nearly a foot long !!!! Never seen one like this before ...... Also from Spain...

The radishes are sometimes available in the UK Zosh
Guavas grow on small trees, not vines, and seldom get much bigger than an egg

Is it a cho cho (chayote), a kind of squash, though those are usually crisp, not spongy

The pear like fruit looks a lot like Choyote, a tasty vegetable, which also grows on a vine like plant. You can buy it at many Asian grocers and some supermarkets. I love it!

Having looked at a chayote, I am not sure and my sample had lots of individual small seeds not one in the middle ?

I must admit that I'd forgotten chayote has a single seed, I think it could be another member of the squash / melon / cucumber family which do tend to have multiple seeds

A friend on the Gardener's World forum has replied as follows ...

"I think that is Arauja sericifera - it is quite common in Spain and known as the Cruel plant because the flowers ( pink and white ) tempt bees and then close round them until they have pollinated the flower.

It is semi hardy in parts of UK.

I first grew it from T & M seeds in the UK way back in the '90s but have since had it in most of my gardens without a problem. ... "

Another suggestion is Custard apple, but it doesn't look like it to me and I think Zosh would recognise one of those.

Again custard apples grow on trees, and look rather different - the scaliness is distinctive IMO
