That's a good read, thanks. It's all quite relevant today, though the varieties have changed in some cases and we wouldn't be using calomel dust anymore.

My dad had a copy of the Reader's Digest Complete Library of the Garden. This was published in 1963 and was full of advice about using DDT, dieldrin & gamma dust. So much changed in those few years.

unfortunately i've not been able to access the 'archive' site for a couple of years (it just won't load), which is a shame as i used to use their ebook section quite a lot.

thank you for the offer, very thoughtful of you but i think most, if not all of them can be found elsewhere like here or even combined in book form.
most of the things i used to use the archive for are available from other sources - it just takes a bit more time to find them.
