I think the fact that they are changing the days and times around so frequently this year says it all!

A problem that I have with MC and similar programmes is that they do not allow time for items that take a longer time to cook, so no braising or marinating

Totally agree Moira ... ditto the making of a good stock is very difficult in the time allowed.

That half an hour episode was quite annoying last night wasn't it? Allow half of the contestants to cook, then have to wait another 24 hours to watch the other half cook and then the elimination. I know there will be a recap but in anticipation of part two I have already forgotten who cooked what last night. A distinct lack of flow.

And has Greg always had an awkwardly false toothy grin or am I only just noticing it? :?

When I did it you were allowed to take 2 prepared items eh stock, filo pastry something in a marinade. Makes more sense because that what one does in a kitchen isn't it?

Have not been watching this avidly, but caught tonight’s episode. I thought there was some very nice food tonight. I’d have enjoyed Jillys fish soup, and though I don’t have a sweet tooth I thought the two desserts looked very tasty.

I also liked the look of the fish soup dish. I am going to be really picky here but she should have wiped those dribbles off the plate....

The butterscotch pud akin to Angel Delight worried me a bit but he really pulled that off didn't he. It was so well presented.

I am glad that we seem to have lost the boring trend of foams on a plate. I don't think there has been one yet unless one happened during one of my snoozes.

A night off tonight and then back to an hour long tomorrow. :bounce:

Talk about food waste, what happened to all the cooked egg whites and unusable egg yolks in that starter that needed a single lightly cooked egg yolk?

I will not be eating peas and chocolate combo anytime soon so Frog not on my must do list. The hake looked good though!

There was a trend here a few years ago to serve an entire 6 course menu containing tomatoes. The peas nd chocolate struck me as something similar. We were in a local restaurant one night when a Dutch couple were sampling the tomato menu. Half way through the man threw down his knife and fork and said "Enough. Toamate absurdom" We cheered!

I was expecting everyone to turn their noses up at the peas and chocolate. It was so absurdly weird to me I could barely watch.

90 minutes tonight. I think I might need coffee during the bit in between. :lol:

I thought tonight's judging was fair. I was quite surprised that Italian pudding man had so much praise. Obviously I didn't taste it, but on looks alone it appeared quite flat. For Grace Dent to go all googly eyed over it, it must have tasted sublime. Delia needs to pull her reigns in. Sorry I can't remember names but rugby girl is ahead of the rest for me.

Totally enjoyed managing to keep my eyes open for that one (only because I napped through and missed GBM...)

Yes, I thought Alex would get through to the final, she has cooked some great food, but she deserved to go on last nights effort. Such a pity after her last chocolate pudding looked wonderful. I’ve been rooting for Jilly for a while now, and loved her classic venison dish. Such praise from the food critics.

Just caught up on yesterday's - sorry to see the back of Alex but as you say, Rats, a mistake not to have cooked the entire dish previously. We had very high hopes for her until now ... Irini is great!
I bet Jilly is a really good teacher. If she wins or otherwise goes on to culinary things her pupils will miss her!

I do not know why they were surprised by Irini's broad bean puree, it sometimes turns up among the dips in a meze.

Moira, we'd be interested in making an alternative to using chickpeas. We have a couple of cans of butter beans, what would you recommend we add to make it a bit different from hummus?
