The Return of Tony Blackburn

Postby Zosherooney » January 8th, 2017, 12:00 pm

We really used to enjoy Pick of the Pops on a Saturday with TB and was astounded when he 'disappeared'. He is now back doing Golden Oldies on a Friday night at 7pm. Not quite the same but at least he is back. I wanted to contact him and welcome his return. There appears to be no way other than to complain to the BBC about this ???? They appear to be a law unto themselves.......

There's an email address on this link:

Given the reasons why he 'disappeared', and his age, I guess he's lucky the BBC brought him back at all!

If they had been proven he wouldn't be back! He was always Mr Nice Guy in a good way wasn't he. I would have been very sad if he too had joined 'the list'. I loved Desmond Carrington but am pleased that Tony B. is the replacement. That said, I don't listen to the radio much at that time but must make an effort to hear what he has to offer. I am so hoping it will be like Desmond Carrington's with a real mix of stuff you don't hear much any more.

Oh dear, nothing you can't hear on Gold stations and old chart shows. Radio 2 is finally weeding out all the lovely 30's and 40's and even 50's stuff. How very sad, there are still people who have very happy memories of those times. I doubt I will be listening to Tony Blackburn much. :(

You can follow and communicate with Tony Blackburn on Twitter.

I remember Desmond Carrington when he was in Emergency Ward 10.

I don't dislike him, am just disappointed with the new format.

I don't remember Desmond Carrington anywhere until he appeared on Radio 2, but I grew up without TV or the Light programme  .

Johnnie Walker was, is and always will be my favourite radio voice. Anyone who has been under your pillow through your early teen years always has a place in your heart :luv: :luv:

Oddly enough I cannot stick Johnnie Walker. :o :o I find him faintly creepy.

But then again I didn't listen to that sort of music in my teens. If you were a classical girl you just didn't.

Another JW fan here; I also quite like Simon Mayo, they both went to Solihull school, maybe that's the voice I like!
The sounds of my youth were whoever was on really, but JW and Mike Raven (R & B but not as we know them now - real delta blues sometimes) John Peel was a bit of a love hate

Looked up Mike Raven
Not appreciated quite what an interesting life he led; when I first got the Dr John albums I knew all the old songs he covered, Mike had played them

I keep looking at this thread and "seeing" Return of Tony Blair - :o :scared:
