thank heavens that pip has finally realised that it's much better to admit a fault than try to hide it. if only she'd done it earlier.

our neighbours cows once had a party in our garden while we were on holiday. when i mentioned it in passing (the hoof prints were obvious not to mention their own brand of mud pie) it was denied and, ridiculously, blamed on another local farmer (a friend of ours) even though we could see where they'd broken through. they didn't deny it a few weeks later when the same bullocks decided to race in circles round our house (like the kangaroos in 'stargazing live a couple of weeks ago) in the early morning, having again broken through in the same place.
