Italy Unpacked becomes Rome Unpacked Friday 5 January

Postby StokeySue » January 4th, 2018, 10:16 pm

Andrew and Giorgio are off to Rome, starting tomorrow at 21.00

Fortunately I saw a trailer as an Italy Unpacked series link doesn't pick it up

Not been to Rome yet, bet this bumps it up my wish list

Ooh, I missed that in the TV guide, although seem to recall half seeing a trailer for it. I must have looked away as Georgio creeps me out. I know I am in the minority....

I will watch though, as tonight's Hairy Bikers really did remind me how much I love Italy and the Med and the food produced and cooked there.

I'm looking forward to this - I love how these two interact. We passed through Rome on a tour - staying only two nights - and we were surprised at how small it seemed - everything you wanted to see was within walking distance.

It's only two episodes, unfortunately. That's why it's just covering Rome, I suppose.

We enjoyed it, very cultural and laid back.

It was great - we're just sorting out where we're going to get the guanciale for the real carbonara - Lina Stores on Brewer St looks likely!

The skate looked delicious too.

Great as ever

It was the size of the chunks of guanciale that surprised me!

My dislike for both presenters' put me off and i switched over. Had it have purely been cooking I may have persevered.

I like both of them and think they make a great team ... it was a really good programme from both the art history and the food angles :D

i think they're great, too.
they seemed reasonably sober. maybe thats because they needed all their wits to ride the moped through roman traffic!

Although I quite enjoyed the programme I'm afraid I just don't enjoy Rome. I think it was partly because of the crazy traffic.I have tried several times but it doesn't suit my temprament. and I found the Roman males really objectionable. I loved the scenes in the market though but that and the ensuing cooking put Mr R right off - he hates skate!! I did enjoy the Caravagio bit though.

When was the last time you were there? We went in the Autumn of 2016 and expected the traffic to be crazy, especially around the Colosseum, but there was hardly any - perhaps there's a better traffic policy, keeping it out of the tourist centre now.

I caught the end of the repeat. I still cannot warm to the presenters but did enjoy the art features on mute while I was on the phone.

Warnings about traffic could possibly be similar to warnings about smells in Venice. I went one year in August and had my nose sniffing but not a pong to be found!

The second episode was really fantastic - with Georgio making the utterly delicious Jewish Artichokes ... as recommended by Arianna when we were all on the BBC food board and we asked for where to go when we went to Rome several years ago.
The art was amazing too.
