Come Home

This was interesting enough to make me want to watch the next 2 episodes.

One question bothers me though. If the drama had to be set in Northern Ireland, why not chose someone other than Christopher Eccleston to play the lead? Someone who naturally has the correct accent. If the producer really wanted Christopher Eccleston, why not set it in the right place for his accent? The place seems irrelevant to the story so far, although that might change.

I can't comment on the accents of the rest of the cast, as they are all fresh faces to me.

I thought the same about Christopher Eccleston, in fact didn't know why he had to have an NI accent at all ... I loved him The 'A' Word ;) :tu: :tu:

One of my friends just popped round and highly recommended it, so I think I might give it a go on catch up too!

It's a 3 parter I understand. The next episode is from the wife's perspective ...

Watched the first part on iPlayer this eve and will definitely watch the remaining episodes. The accents didn't bother me although there were bits of dialogue neither OH nor I actually understood ... but that seems to happen more and more often now, even when there's no regional accent to blame!
As to why set it in NI rather than somewhere that would suit Christopher Eccleston's accent, It may be that there need to be a certain number of original productions made in NI to fulfil the Beeb's charter to serve the whole of the UK? And they really, really wanted him to play the lead!

I noticed at the end of the credits last night, that part of the funding came from NI organisations, which might explain a lot. But what came first - the idea to set a story in NI then get funding, or funding made available on condition the story was set in NI?

There's certainly a lot of explaining to do next week! :D None of the characters are acting rationally.

What came out during the custody hearings did make you think differently about what you'd seen of the two parents up to that point! As you say - a realistic ending compared to some things I've watched recently.
