Ask the Mods (and the rest of the board) Mark2

Order yourself a latte, and a pastry (The virtual cinnamon buns are excellent today). And have a nice chat.

Hi Pepperpig, This is something Aero or Riocaz will have to look into. She certainly doesn't show as banned when I look and there is absolutely no reason she would be that I know of.

She's not banned and never has been... Though her IP was caught up when I broke things!

I'm not sure why she's having issues but it's not because we've banned her!!! And there was never any chance that we would mistake her for BadgersBum because of the contraction of their names!!!

It's possible that I missed a range of IPs when I fixed the issue the last time, and her internet connection has picked up a "banned" IP (almost all Internet service providers use "dynamic" addressing, so they change. But I need to know what IP address she's on, that's banned. As the ban list is huge.

That would match up with my suspicion that there's a range of IP addresses that I missed when I unblocked the others. However the IP ban list is HUGE and I have no way to find out what it is.

BusyBee, I'm really sorry this is still happening to you. It's in no way intentional on my part (or that of the other mods). If you know how to access your router then log in and look for the IP address the next time it happens and send it over to Pepper, so I can fix it permanently!

I think Will missed a bit of the conversation. ;)

We know! BusyBee hasn't ever been banned, but it looks like she's occasionally picking up a banned IP address that I missed.

PP has just alerted me to this message.

I think my very limited IT skills extend to getting the IP address next time it happens.

Interesting, or maybe not, I was out in Manchester using my mobile when it happened, and was OK again by the time me and the kebab had wobbled home.

Thank you Lee and PP for sorting it out.

I really didn't do anything. If it was mobile rather than at home then it will be harder to track down still. :/

Dunno! :) Depends on which browser you are using.

I use an Apple Mac and it hasn't been a problem...

Hope you can help me with this?

I'm accessing the site on an I-pad. Since Friday when the site disappeared I have only been able to access the coffee shop threads. If I try to access the kitchen threads all I get is the sleeping robot.

I've deleted my shortcut to Wildfood but still get this issue. I can access the kitchen threads on my phone, so it must be something to do with the iPad. Any ideas???

Thanks BB

It's cached. You need to find the option to clear the cache in your browser.

That wouldn't be a caching issue, it sounds like your browser is either clearing the login cookie every couple of days or it's becoming corrupted. Both would be on your computer though nothing to do with our side.

Are you entering the site via a link in Google chrome? If so I had the same issue with my iPad and to solve it I deleted the Chrome icon and reinstalled it. Works perfectly now.

You know those emails you get when someone sends you a Private Message? Don't delete them all ... I keep a few in a folder where I can find them ... when the site has been down and the sleeping robot has been around, if your short cut links still keep going straight to him, find one of those emails and click on the link contained therein ... works for me :tu: :D

Clearing your cache is faster...

And guaranteed to work whereas that probably won't work all the time (specifically it WON'T work if you try it before the board comes back and cache the page you are trying to get too).

To clear your cache in Firefox (windows) you click "Tools" "Options" "Privacy" and "clear your recent history". Most other browsers will have a similar option.

Or just press "Ctrl-Shift-Delete" in Windows or "Command-Shift-Delete" on a Mac (which SHOULD work for every browser but may not).

You can change your email address in the User Control Panel. Choose the "Profile" tab and then go to the "edit account settings" in the sidebar.

I think this changes your registration info for when you need to log in again. But, I can't say for certain because Yahoo addresses are banned for new registrations. I think it will be OK to change later as there is no check. Yahoo addresses are the choice of spammers which is why it was banned.

If you try it and run into problems we can sort it out.

No, it won’t let me change to a yahoo account. I still have the hotmail account but very rarely check it. I was just a bit worried about Wildfood going down, and having no contact. No worries, if I lose you, I can always try via FB.

Since the snoring robot episode G mail keeps putting wildfood e mail notifications into the Spam box. I have gone into the webmail twice and marked it 'Not Spam'. A G mail issue I expect, is there anything else to be done? I expect it will sort itself out sooner or later.

I set up the “subscribe to topic”. Since then I have received an email when your new posts are made, but I don’t get an email when I mak3 posts in the same thread. Obviously I don’t need notifying when I have made a post, but I was interested that the software knew this.

Make sure that you open the email messages rather than just deleting them and going to Wildfood. If you delete them unopened, emails from that sender will be recognised and treated as spam next time they arrive.

To change the title of a thread on the board index, you have to go back and edit the title in the very first post. Only the person who started the thread (or a mod) can do this.

A little bit of techie help required please.

I recently deleted all cookies on my iPad. No problems, but I’m finding it hard to see Wildies posts now - they’re a bit too small. I’ve been in to iPad settings etc.

I’d forgotten, and have just re-seen the little text size button at the top of each Wildfood page. I’ve used it before, and think it’s great, but I thought I could set it to stay that size permanently. Is there any way for me to do that, pls?

Whenever I find the text too small, I press Ctrl with +. Not sure if this also works on an iPad .. My text then stays that size until I re-size (usually to play scrabble on facebook ;) )

That happened to me on MacBookAir a couple of weeks ago, it seems to have sorted itself out now. Also e mails were in such a tiny font that they were barely readable. I'd guess an update. I changed a few settings which helped. I know nothing about computers so am not a reliable advisor. I must do a back-up before this laptop collapses...

Re: Ask the Mods (and the rest of the board) Mark2

Postby TeresaFoodie » June 3rd, 2018, 10:37 am

Does 'Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached' when I try to attach a photo mean we have limits to how many we can attach? I often get a message to say a photo is too large, so I scale it down, but this is a new one on me.

Thanks!

Let me try a post with a picture...

Nope...

Looks like the whole board limit has been reached for uploading any photos to Wildfood. I will have a quick look, but I think it's a matter for Riocaz.
