Today's bargains

Postby PatsyMFagan » November 5th, 2019, 8:06 pm

I found a couple of unexpected bargains in Tesco today : Dates and Plum Butter.

The 800gm box of dates cost £3.10 (while the small boxes weighing a quarter of this are about £2) and the jar of Plum Butter was reduced to 70p from £1.39

I intend to use the dates in a mincemeat recipe using Amaretto liqueur. Any ideas for the Plum Butter ?

I have always wondered what people did with fruit butters! Watching with interest.

I had not heard of plum butter, but apparently you can make it in a slow cooker.

If not eaten with cheese, I imagine you can use it wherever you might use jam? (Maybe not jam tarts...)

My friend makes damson butter each year and I usually get a jar :chops: . It's lovely with cream in a scone or generally used like jam or curd. A couple of spoonfuls swirled through whipped cream makes a tasty filling for meringues.

I make apple butter fairly regularly. I love it on toast in the autumn and winter :chops:

Patsy, I buy those very dates! They're most reasonably priced aren't they? :tu:

Yes indeed! Can't be doing with scraggy dates. The Sainsbury's ones are lovely. :D
